How did I miss this?

Best Buy has it as an October 2007 release yet I haven't seen anything on this in the way of screen shots or trailers or anything. Has anyone seen any info in this upcoming title?

We don't know much about the next Wolfenstein installment, beyond the following:

* It's coming first to 360, then other platforms to follow.
* It's being co-developed by iD and Raven.
* No official announcement has been made (yet) with regard to story or release date.

In a nutshell, you know about as much as anyone here... and I sure wouldn't put any stock in the Oct. 2007 release date. :)

castle wolfenstein...hmm yes. A fun game on the xbox for sure, but that zombie story was stupid. They should have kept it all nazi killing. Everything about wolfenstein I liked they did in cod 3 (airstrikes, character classes, etc), so they'll have to revolutionize things if they expect to get my cash

I disagree, I enjoyed the paranormal aspect of it as it's a bit more fanciful than the hordes of realistic WWII games. Sounds like COD3 is working out well for you so maybe stay with it!

Yeah doing a little poking around I saw some references as far back as 2005. But still no real info of any kind.

I played the PC version of RTCW and it had ALL paranormal aspects so I sort of expected this game to follow on that line. I didn't play the xbox version, but I'm guessing it was probably a port of the PC version?

If id and Raven are envolved then it is probably Doom 3/Quake 4 engine based. So it could be pretty nice.

Coop on this title was a blast! Graphics were pretty bland (downright funny at times when looking at your coop buddy), but the gameplay was spot on.

I hope they get the multiplayer right. 4-player split-screen on Live. They botched that with the Xbox version. I've never had a better time in an online game than in the early days of the RTCW beta program. The play balance was so good and everyone playing was great to play with.

Can. Hardly. Wait.

Hope they keep the HORIZONTAL split screen co-op. That was a blast. Even my wife got into it.

(What is with the VERTICAL split anyway? It is like wearing blinds on the sides... Makes me dizzy and schizophrenic... HEAR ME OUT Insomniac, you ruined the co-op campaign in Resistance FOM for us!!!)

I really enjoyed the PC version a couple of years ago. One of the best things was when you stood there for a while and didn't let the enemy notice you they would say some funny things.

Most everyone I played this game with thought the supernatural stuff was a little over the top. I had fun don't get me wrong, but I think this is what this game should have and do: a WW2 game that is just SUPER gory. Nobody has approached this war in this manner yet and it needs to be addressed. I'm talking exploding nazi's, mortar strikes on medic tents, rookies on flamethrowers who pull the trigger at the wrong time, whatever. Just make it like soldier of fortune with that level of gore. I loved the online levels of wolfenstein, particularly the level where there are these huge gates with big bases at each end. There were these small openings in the gates so you knew where the enemies were going to come through. It was crazy! Plus that d-day level was outstanding. They really could have used a normandy beach invasion level in cod 3 if you ask me, but I think they thought it was "been there done that". This level in wolfenstein may be my all time favorite online shooter level, but the game was simply too buggy and laggy to be truly effective. Another d day level that was awesome was battlefield 1942 when you could shoot those huge cannons at the invaders. Good stuff right there. Bring that back and make it super gory!

Loved the Paranormal aspect of it......we need more of this in WW2 games because you can only "Battle for Normandy" so many times before it all becomes stale....

Kinda makes the game like reading a WEIRD WAR comic :)

I want to see more alternate-reality WW2 games...kinda like Resistance, these alternate timeline games allow develpers to give us something we know, but mix it up a bit. Give us WW2 combat in a future world cuz of a crazy Nazi time machine or something.....fight in an alternate future where Germany won the war, that kind of thing...

The only problem I ever had with the Wolf games were that as a FPS they had some weak weapons...the Mp40 felt all wrong, and thats the weapon you wound up using alot of the time.

I'd buy a new Wolf game sight-unseen. Just so long as there is a Castle to escape from :D

I liked it as well. It was an interesting twist and unexpected. Hey, to each their own. You either liked it or you didn't. :)

Thanks to the OP for the info. This is news to me.

Widescreen multiplayer should be side by side. It's ridiculous to make it top and bottom like a square TV. A choice would be best, but beyond that, side by side is the way to go.

I can't believe people would want to play just another WW2 shooter, fer cryinoutloud... we already have the Brothers in Medal of Duty games, and simply adding more carnage on top of that won't make the setting unique. You simply can't do Wolfenstein without the paranormal stuff. (Well, OK... Silas Marner did on the original Apple ][ game, but that was the early '80s.) The zombies and Nazi abominations were creepy, well executed, and fit nicely into the lore solidified in the Indiana Jones and Hellboy series that saw Hitler obsessed with acquiring supernatural weapons. Once iD went down that road with Wolf3D, there was no turning back.

Gimme the creepy zombies and Tesla coils, along with the excellent level design, and I'm there. The only thing I would long for in the new Wolf title would be a return to the stealth, disguise, and lockpicking that we saw in the Marner games of yore -- taking bulletproof vests from dead soldiers, sneaking around in SS uniforms, and prying open chests full of ammo and goodies.

and extreme gore would be great! I'm talking super sized nazis punching holes in people's chests, nazi sorcerer types who fry allied snipers with bolts of lightning, or maybe 50 cal guns against hordes of nazi soldiers while they eat their saurkraut at dinner

This game was what led me into XBL really. I played a few before it but this was the one that set it off. I never played the campaign really but me and a lot of friends in HS played online all the time.

zombies were a bit much, but the game still freaked the hell outta me when i played alone at night with all the lights off! and i was 28 years old then! agreed about call of duty 3. i took right to it as it felt familiar to rtcw. can't wait for a new installment!

I wish that ID would do multiplayer as well as they did with Quake 3. For me that was a difinitive multiplayer game on the PC and for me nothing has really come close to the smoothness, map design and weapon balance of Quake 3 although Halo did a good job of coming close to that experience on a console.

Yeah, a choice is the best.

I only could imagine side by side play on a TV that is 2.31:1.

(But those TV-s are at least 15 years away... for now we are stuck with 16:9...

It takes place in the Quake franchise, so it's Quake 4 style. It's by the same people that did Wolfenstein Enemy Territory and its formal title is "Enemy Terrority: Quake Wars."

I'd buy it. Some of the most creative multiplayer maps I've ever played were in this game. Laggiest thing you ever saw, but a lot of fun. Anyone remember holding a grenade too long? Your guy would literally dissolve in a spray of blood and goo and just a skull would be sitting there. Wow

Not sure I am all that thrilled with the paranormal angle and his new powers to see this and influence that world. However, the open world paly looks excellent and the graphics look good. I was a HUGE fan of Return to Wolfenstein, can't wait to play this one.

I read that too, looks pretty cool as long as they don't lean too hard on the alternate world mode. Sounded like it was about a year away from being finished, but pretty playable at this point...

No Hitler in this upcoming Wolfenstein?
The mystery if you'll ever get a shot off at him is gone. :(

I was hoping for more accuracy in the storyline this time.

The Xbox game is a straight port of RTCW with an additional co-op mission pack that leads up to the first scene where you are in a cell and your partner is being tortured by a Nazi doctor. I have been trying to find a copy locally but it's a pretty rare title at this point.

From the gamespy article:

"Being developed by Raven Software, Wolfenstein is expected to come out in North America some time in the second quarter of 2009."

First of all, it's coming in the second quarter and there hasn't been any media for it yet? Not even a crappy non-gameplay trailer? Usually not a great thing. Secondly, Raven hasn't made a solid game since Jedi Knight 1 and 2.

P.S.: Activision owns everything now.

No big deal, Activision published the first one and a lot of the same developers at id/Raven built it. They know what they're doing.
