We recently switched to comcast and are experiencing problems with most of our receivers. My receiver sometimes freezes for a few seconds when a button is pressed on the remote, sometimes it freezes for 5 or 10 minutes before I finally give up and cycle the power. Unfortunately, when I do that it erases the guide and I have to wait several hours(usually a day or two) for the guide to download again. Sometimes when watching something I've recorded it will act as if the signal is dropping out, I see macro blocks, the video and audio skips, etc...

Usually it's actually recorded this way, but sometimes I can rewind to replay a part that was messed up and the second time it will play fine.

A tech was out recently for another problem, but he said our signal was fine(he based this on the fact that On Demand worked).

Why does this box lock up or pause so often? Do I have a glitchy box? Or is the entire model line just bug ridden?

You will have more luck with this question in the HDTV recorders forum.

There is a complete thread about the 6412 over there, here is the link: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=464986

Also try the Wikibook for alot of good information: How to use a 6412 (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_to_use_a_Motorola_DVR)
