1st post!!!

anyways...I'm interested on setting up a nice/not too expensive (about 1.5k) HT system. Up to now I was thinking about going with Athena for the front , rear , and center speakers (haven't decided which ones yet), Denon's AVR-587 receiver, and the Athena ASP-6000 sub.

The room is around 300 sq. ft.

Dunno if this is a good way to go...

How is the ASP-6000 compared to SVS's PB12-NSD? and how good are Athena's subs. And how good is that entry level Denon receiver?

As far as the speakers...I was aiming at the AS-B2.2 or AS-F2.2 (front), AS-B2.1 or AS-F2.1 (rear) and AS-C1.2 (center).

Now...I don't know anything bout the rear channel...does that Denon receiver support a rear channel??? 7 channels so my guess would be yes. If so...I am thinking bout Athena's AS-R1.2.

I guess that's all.

Thanks

Assuming you have an 8 foot ceiling, that gives you about 2400 cubic feet (total room volume is the number to work with). The Athena AS-F1.2 or AS-F2.2 should nicely fill the main position. They're a quality entry-level speaker with very good sound. I would recommend the AS-C1.2 for timbre matching the center with the mains. Only gripe I've ever had with it is that's it is occasionally overpowered by the mains and requires a little bump up in trim. As for rears, you should be fine with B-1's or even R-1's. The Audition Series recently took a nice drop in price due to a newer line coming out. The F-2.2's can be had for $400 a pair...a steal for what you're getting!
As for Athena's subs, the general consensus is don't waste the money. For a good sub, go with SVS, Hsu, Rocket or something along those lines.
Were it my money, I wouldn't be so worried about a 7.1 setup. There's very little commerical stuff out there recorded in that format. Plus your space is kinda small for it. 5.1 should more than suit your needs for the room you're working with.
