Hello,

I have a Sony 50' SXRD with component cable connections to dvd player and surround sound stereo system. Lets start buy saying everything looks and sounds great. I was just curious about hte difference in quality with the hdmi connections? When the cable guy hooked up the box ofcourse he used component but i did see hoooks ups for a dci so i could possibly get a hdmi to dci connnector to the box. I have heard with hdmi the color can look washed out. I just want to make sure i have the best connectios possible. When I someday get a hd dvd or blu ray that is when i plan on using the hdmi connections.

What do you mean by component cable connections to the AV receiver? You should be using optical or coax from the cable STB and DVD player for sound to the AV receiver.

As for DVI/HDMI vs component, results can vary based on the set and the equipment, only way to find out which is better in your set up is to try them both. You can get an inexpensive DVI to HDMI cable from some place like monoprice.com for testing. Don't be suckered into buying expensive DVI or HDMI cables either, it's a digital connection, as long as the data gets from point A to point B, the PQ will always be the same.
