First off I have an interior door already in place. The carpet installers were over yesterday to take measurements. How do I tackle the the space under the door and carpet? I need pictures of what people did for their thresholds. I'm trying to convince the wife there should be a threshold so then I can put a weatherstripping of some sort underneath the door for sound purposes.

Thanks for the help.

You should use a combination of an automatic door bottom and a threshold for a good acoustical seal. Take the threshold and cut the carpet so it can be screwed directly into your subloor. The combination of the door bottom and threshold will provide a great acoustical seal. Here is a picture of a complete kit installed with the jamb seal as well:

Does that help at all?

Some people have used pre-hung entrance type doors that already include a sealing threshold. Others have used the automatic door seals seen here: www.acousticalsurfaces.com (http://www.acousticalsurfaces.com/doorseals/adj_doorseals.htm?d=34)

ifeliciano,

Thanks for the link. The website doesn't explain if the seal is right on top of the carpet. Maybe I'll just have the carpet installer install the carpet underneath the door and deal with the threshold later.

Thanks,
James

The automatic door bottom should seal against a threshold for best sound isolation. I guess you could have it seal against the carpet, but I suspect it would negate a lot of the benefits.
