Well maybe not free but attaching free range egg boxes to the sides of the walls up front has made a little difference with some frequencies. At the moment this is only an experiment. Given the shape and surface it sees to help with some directional high frequencies.

So with a little saving of the good ole egg box from each purchase seems to work ok, it may not look appealing but with a little Blu tack stuck to the front of the egg box and stuck to walls surface what harm can it curse. :)

I’ll be trying out kitchen roles next to see what I can solve on the affordable means that is. :)

Not sure how I'd feel about tacking egg cartons to my walls, but I'll give you props for a creative solution!

You placing your eggboxes / deflectors too close to your speakers. Your first point fo reflection is much further out - probably somewhere between your window. Get a friend to hold the mirror on the side wall, sit where you normally sit and habe your friend move it along the wall until you see the speakers - thats your first point of reflection.......thats just the beginning.

If you sitting right up close to a wall, some people like it that way since it produces more bass, others like to treat it.

The look of egg cartons just invites this use. It comes around regular as clock work. To the extent that they do much they are diffusors as much as absorbers, and really don't work well at first reflection points. You also have to eat a lot of eggs to get coverage.

But the photos here and in other posts suggest a fairly live room, so any added treatment may do a little something.

Here is an article and a test of egg cartons that says while they have an NRC of .4 there is more to the story. http://www.acousticsfirst.com/eggc.htm
