Get about 5 to 10 people together with you that want a calibration and you could all split the travel costs.......

I believe so, but don't ask the price. Apparently unlike every other product or service on the planet, this is super secret and those who have used them are sworn to secrecy about the price. If you asked someone how much they paid him, they will dodge the question. If I ever see anyone post what they paid for a calibration, I think I'd fall out of my chair.

No Dave, it's because every calibration is different so the price varies from customer to customer. Why do you need to know how much every one pays? Just simply CALL KEN and ask him what the price is for YOUR SITUATION.

I also have never heard of anyone being sworn to secrecy as well for what they have paid Ken. Rubbish.

I know everyone is different, but there must be a per hour time and if people told what they paid and for how many sources, etc, it would give others an idea.

So, what did your calibration entail (what sources, etc) and what was the exact cost of it? Care to prove me wrong and share that info? :)

(BTW, the "sworn to secrecy" was a tongue in cheek joke cause I can't believe no one will say what it costs them.)

just curious, how much is a pro calibration anyways?

just curious, how much is a pro calibration anyways? It's best to contact the calibrators directly, but just to give everyone a range, plan on $75 - $125 / hr. Most calibrators offer 4-hr and 8-hr packages. Plus travel. That's why it's best to schedule 4-6 people in your area. Or watch for threads where they mention driving to certain states/regions.

If someone had a $2000 budget, I recommend a $1500 CRT with a $500 calibration... it'll look better in one day than most of us could do after 2 years (if ever).

A huge improvement... bigger than any component upgrade, lense upgrade, board mod, HTPC upgrade, screen upgrade, etc.

I thought I did a pretty good job setting up my G90 when I got it...

One week later... after a professional calibration:

Same camera, same exposure settings, same source.

Sorry for snapping at you man. I'm in a bad mood tonight I guess.

2 sources, 1 G70, setup from scratch two different resolutions, no memory management. I believe it was somewhere around a grand if I'm not mistaken.

G90 mounted, three sources and travel, $1300.00. He was literally here from 1pm to 1am. I'm not sure, but I don't think he does "by the hour" because with his desire for perfection, it takes him as long as it takes him. Like I said before, even going into the early hours, he was like a little kid calling me over and saying, "Oh!Oh! Come here and look at this!". A professional calibration is worth every penny. You wouldn't believe the quality of picture he can dial out of an NEC PG chasis. Simply amazing!

You'll also be amazed how much you learn just by watching a pro work.

NEC XG new tubes, full setup, grey scale, and 1 source 2 memorys around 1k. But as Cliff said depends on what needs to be done that's why its better to talk to Ken. Not some top secret club, although I am proud to have seen and experienced his work...

It's worth it for sure.

It's funny how the calibration actually got rid of the guy in the first frame :)

I can't wait for Ken to come up and do my G70.

If the friggin theater would only finish building itself!!!!!

Maybe if I spent more time actually doing the work instead of surfing the net reading about building a theater

Edfowler,

I fill your pain. I've been working on my HTR for about 10 months and it's killing me. The only thing I have left is lighted movie posters (DIY) ,seating (2/18/07) ,door to room ,and Ken to come breath as much life as he can into my barco data 701. I would have mounted my barco data 808s ,but that's a little to big for my ceiling height. Where is best area of the forum to set up a Ken tour for OHIO?
