Hi There,

I'm about to purchase an SPL Meter and was wondering if calibrating the LEFT and RIGHT Channels are necessary for 2CH audio?

I understand this is more important when calibrating 5.1/7.1 home theatre, but what about 2CH?

What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
Steve

If your amp or receiver is only 2ch, I would say it is not necessary. Most stereo equipment have a balance adjustment that you can use to easily adjust the channel. However, it won't hurt to use SPL meter to make more accurate adjustment.

If, one has, as I do, a difference in hearing between the left and right ears, using the meter doesn't quite do it. I have to raise the trim slightly on the right. But as others also listen I split the difference.

Set the levels by the meter and then adjust by ear if they are not spot on. One way to check it to sit centered on the speakers, as close to the speaker to speaker line as you can, and listen to something in mono- if the speakers are in phase (as they should be) the sound will be directly in front of you, centered between the speakers.
