Hello!

I'm not quite sure if this is a stupid question or not, but oh well.

My HD box is a Motorola DCT-6200 and it has DVI out, now my question is if I use a DVI to VGA converter will that VGA output to a projector work, by which I mean will all video content be delivered properly?

Thanks!!!

Also, if anyone know, will component out(480i) from a DVD player display properly over a component to VGA cable on a projector via VGA in? thanks! :)

1) VGA is more then capable of handling HD resolutions.

2) Can't just use a cable to go from component to VGA, you need a transcoder.

If your projector can only do VGA, consider a component to VGA transcoder and a component switcher and just use component from both the 6200 and your DVD player as your source. You won't gain anything using the digital DVI output on the 6200 and it will require another expensive converter since DVI is digital and VGA is analog.

This sort of confuses me

Would something like this work for the cable box to get DVI to VGA to the projector?

I'll look into the transcoder, thanks!

Those adapters are for video cards and devices that have DVI-I outputs, DVI is digital but it's possible to add analog VGA to additional pins in the connector. Most cable boxes only support DVI-D which is digital only.

You'd need something that can convert the digital feed to analog while still supporting HDCP content protection. Not sure if something of that nature even exists at the moment.

Well this sucks, I'll guess I'll go w/ S-Video or component then, thanks!

Go component with the transcoder as I suggested before, s-video can't support HD resolutions.
