Can some of you out there provide those of us new to projectors input on how to calibrate the Panasonic PT-AX100U. Please confine this tread to just tweaks and calibration tips. If you want to bitch about the 100u, then do it on the AX100U thread.
Thanks in advance

I found a thread already dedicated to this before I bought mine but you're right, it turned into anything except a calibration thread. Like many here, it became a series of tangents having nothing to do with the original poster's intent and it's rolled off into the past pages into obscurity, unfortunately.
Can't find the link right now but what I did find interesting was the fact that the general concensus was that there just wasn't much tweaking to do to this projector, especially in Cinema1 mode. Those that did follow the original intent of the thread seemed to all concur that in Cinema1, the AX100 was spot-on out of the box. Now that I have mine, I have to say that I agree.
I agree. We should at least try to keep one open. As new as this projector is, people will surely discover new tweaks as they grow in experience with their new toys. :)

I have a calibration disc which i have not used yet, but i agree it looks pretty good right out of the box. i would expect only minor teaking and marginal improvement by doing a full calibration.

Thanks I was wondering that myself, as it looked very good out of the box. Question: depending on the DVD or source do you adjust the focus, or just leave it alone once it's focused. I'll jump from 480 to 720 notice i need to tweak the focus ever so slightly.

Are any of your using Normal instead of Cinema1? I have been using Normal along with Brightness at -8 and color temp at +6 and it looks really, really good.

Digital VE is out (and has been for a while) and most prefer it due to its simplicity and explanations. The older VE is fine if you're familiar with it. Haven't looked at the older one in a while but if recollection serves me, I don't recall it having much (if any) 16:9 material.
IMO, Avia is the tweakers dream. the catch with Avia is that, for the most part, you need to pretty much already know how to make adjustments in advance. As for the voluminous number of test screens, it simply cannot be beat.
Both are great choices. Start with DVE and then get yourself a copy of Avia to play with to pass the time on boring days when nothing's on. :)

I use noomal a lot in the late afternoon especially for my afternoon local news that's obviously video and is in HD.
I kinda flip between normal and cinema1. I like the punch of normal. Dynamic's just a bit much and has some ringing. Usually, I just use cimema1 for HD-DVD and DVD movies.

As far as calibration disks go, I thought that Avia was the best. I have been told by many on here that the is a New Calibration DVD out that is really awesome (although I haven't used it yet.) Check the Display Calibration forum.
