View Full Version : Anything new on the horizon?
S L O T H 01-27-07, 11:25 AM I'm just wondering if any companies have any new projectors on the horizon or are we pretty much set for the time being. I keep hearing about the benq mystery projector that was supposed to be out in november, but that's pretty much it.
Tweakophyte 01-29-07, 09:03 AM I'm wondering what's coming, too. Nothing ground breaking came out of CEDIA... now what?
720p has peaked. 1080p is the near future. Expect 2nd gen (2G) 1080p and the first wave of more affordable (most likely LCD) units this November/December. Say goodbye to 480p, except for all-in-one units like the DV10, DV11.
gwlaw99 01-29-07, 11:10 AM You won't see anything new until late august/september around CES, except perhaps the 720p benq lcd.

That would be CEDIA, CES passed this month. No biggie.

Good question... What type of projector do you or have you owned in the past and what are you looking to improve upon?
Tweakophyte 01-30-07, 08:29 AM I am suprised there are not more 720p DC3 projectors. You'd think it would be a near, drop-in solution.
Though I've been tempted, I am skipping this generation to see what comes out next year.
Flooper 01-30-07, 09:23 AM I'm hoping there are a few low-end 720p DLPs like the Mits HD1000u that come out with lens shift.
mastiff34 01-30-07, 10:30 AM I keep waiting an announcement for the mistu 3100 in the us, but so far, no luck.

I second this one!
S L O T H 01-30-07, 11:09 AM Truth be told, I've been trolling this forum for months. I keep thinking "oh this one is right for me" and then I hear something is coming out that is better. This has got to stop! I think right now is the perfect time to pull the trigger because 720p such as the epson 400 or mitsu hd1000u are priced good and are what I am looking for. I'm a hardcore gamer, but I fear rainbows and eyestrain more on my guests than myself. I just don't need one of my friends to come over and start complaining of headaches and whatnot, so I'm not sure about the mitsu and may choose LCD. I have a pretty killer tax return on the horizon and I finally plan on getting er done real soon. Cost per bang for buck is the biggest factor in my decision. I think the mitsu will be the route. That is why I started this thread to see if anything groundbreaking typically comes out between now and cedia, if anyone had heard anything, whatever. I agree, lens shift 720 with a super fast color wheel for 1K would by dynamite (always wanted to use that word!)

When I was at CES this year I ask about the 3100 and the official word is they have no plans to bring it over here but who knows.
mastiff34 01-30-07, 12:14 PM For the life of me I can't figure out why! Its driving me crazy
Guys, know this, all the forward engineering will be dedicated to 1080p machines. I expect more 720p DC3 units but other than that, nada. (Lots of unused DMDs going cheap).
The good news is this time two years forward we should see very affordable 3rd Gen 1080p PJs. Something to look forward to, eh?
mastiff34 01-30-07, 12:59 PM How about some cheap 720p 3 chip dlp's... =(

I own the Optoma HD72 right now and I have owned 2 other DLP's with slower color wheels. I have had countless guests (movie viewings, football parties etc.) and haven't had a single complaint about eye strain or rainbows. The picture that the Optoma puts out is pretty awesome and I don't see any reason why you should wait .
