Need to extent existing speaker wire during a media room renovation. What is the best way to splice existing speaker wire not to introduce any additional noise in the signal or lose any signal for that matter. REX

Good luck! blackbill 01-27-07, 03:28 PM You don't have to worry TOO much about picking up noises with speaker wire.... it's why it's not shielded like line level cables. Do your splice as normal (soldering is best... non soldered conections tend to oxidize over time and current capability becomes reduced.... or at minimum marrettes). Tape your finished joints with electrical tape, and that's that. It would be an asset if you did not route the wires near any household wiring, transformers, motors, or other inductive loads. |
