I think the picture I have is nice… but.
I’m getting tired of the noise.
The slow start up.. 1h now to get a perfect picture..
So is all the new (ax100, Z5) LCD DLP better then the old ampro 2000d

What to buy if I want a picture that is similar to CRT?

Compared to an Ampro 2000 they will have certain nice advantages and certain big disadvantages. They will deliver a more detailed and sharper HD image, but will have much worse blacks than a well setup gamma corrected CRT. A CRT pj has upto 700,000:1 on/off contrast with gamma correction. Dark scenes won't compare to a well setup gamma corrected CRT, but they can look ok enough. Low APL scenes really suffer with digitals.

JVC RS-1. :D It's the only one that has a really high native contrast for a digital. You'll probably enjoy the AX100 or Z5 though (the AX100 is more CRT like in regards to picture smoothness since it has no SDE, but neither are close in black level or on/off contrast). How much you like them might depend on how well your CRT is setup and if it's gamma corrected or not.

Here the pj's in order of preference that a CRT guy might like:
Sharp 20,000
JVC RS-1
Sony Pearl
Sony HS60
Sharp 3000
Sharp 500
Sanyo Z5
These are well built units with excellent performance. Black level that beat every other PJ which to is a hi consideration for a CRT fan. List your budget.

Someone left out the highly regarded Mits 3000 and 3100.
PS: I notice you placed the HS60 above the Sharps. Now, how did that happen?

Both the units are calibrated to 2000-2500 on/off. Not that I don't like them but better choices are out there IMO.
Also I am not that fan of very light weight projectors but some actually buy them for the that reason.
