Title says it all, can i use a HDMI to DVI adapter and then a dvi to vga adapter to a vga breakout to RGBHV to hook up a Bluray to my sony 12xx??
or does the picture get degraded going through that many changes??

Is your DVI-VGA adapter an active DVI-D converter (like a dtrovision or moome external... then the answer is yes, that will work), or are you talking about just a $3 DVI-VGA dongle (then the answer is no, that won't work)

If you're talking about the kind of DVI to VGA adapters you get with video cards, then no, it won't work. It won't even physically connect as the pins from DVI-D don't even line up with the DVI-VGA adapter. The only reason it works on videocards is because the videocard itself can output in analog and digital. Videocards are pretty complex and can convert pretty much any video signal. Its a shame they can't be used as converters though.
