I recently purchased a NEW A/V Receiver, the Onkyo 603X, and it "boasts" that it's remote can LEARN directly from your remotes, OR you can enter their Codes in order to use them ALL thru their remote = WRONG!!! It appears I got a DUMMY Remote with mine because not one of my other 3 remotes are recognized no matter which way I try. Besides I have to use a flashlight to see it in my HT.

Thus it is - I have been researching buying my FIRST illuminated and "wise" Universal Remote - - - I have kind of narrowed it down to several, the first and least expensive would be One 4 ALL 8910 - BUT studying it, would it work for me, since it appears you are supposed to set it up just like my Onkyo was SUPPOSED to be setup - in fact, I tried the 8910 Codes for my DISH R. and they did not work either.
Does this mean that I had better get a more expensive one that sets itself up via da WEB - like the Harmony 550 or 720, I went to Logitech and made a test run and it recognized and setup my components for me already - IF I buy one of their's or the HK TC 30 [probably too much money for me].
The other one that I have read so much GOOD about is the Home Theater MX 500 - but once again it appears that that one you must be able to insert the codes yourself one way or the other and IF you can't you need another remote that is programmed correctly and feed it into yours [TOO MUCH]!

PLEASE Advise,

TKS Michael

Your instict is good with the OFA URC-8910. This remote comes with a good sized database of codes built in, plus new codes can be added over the phone as the remote has a built in modem. Finally, the real kicker is that it has a PC interface built in (that's the little 6-pin connector in the battery compartment) which lets you program the remote from your PC, if you get yourself a JP1 cable.
