I originally posted this in the Direct View CRT Tube forum, but figured I might get some help in this Remote Control Forum. Thanks.

I've got an old 19" Sony without a remote (which was lost years and years ago) and now I need to get into the menu to have it search for channels. The TV was previously hooked up to satellite and was configured to only accept channel 3. Now it's hooked to analog cable and I want to have it scroll through all the channels when I press Channel Up or Channel Down. But I can't do this until I get into the menu.

I've tried several universal remotes with all the different Sony codes, as well as remotes from other Sony TVs, but I can't find one that will get me into the menu. Are there any other tricks to get into the menu, like press Power twice, Channel Up once, slap the side, etc?

Which universal remotes have you tried? There might be ways to make the remotes work, but need to know what remotes you have access to. As for Sony remote, I think you need one with "Add", "Erase", and "Auto PGM" buttons.

Good news. I have a friend that used to be a solid Sony customer and he had a bunch of old remotes, including one with Auto PGM. It was corroded and barely functional, but eventually the button worked. The TV reprogrammed, and voila!

Thanks for your help.
