I got this Sony stand for my 60" SXRD:

but my center channel speaker only fits on the bottom shelf. It's only about an inch off the carpet. Is this generally okay? Or should I really get the speaker above the TV?

I was told to get the Omnimount shelf for the top of the TV but it looks really funky and detracts from the look of the TV. I also am leary of it falling off the TV.

Any input?

Why not try it and angle the speaker upwards....toward the seating area. You can move it if it doesn't work?

Generally, the speaker should be close to the screen in order to emulate the voicing and sound effects which are on-screen.

Thanks, that seems like a good idea. I'll try propping it to angle upwards first. Adding a shelf mount to the top of the TV seems like it will really detract from the cool sleek look of the TV.

Well it ended up sounding muddy and male voices were not very clear.

I ended up buying an Omnishelf and putting it on top of the TV:
