View Full Version : Weird DLP auto-turn off colour wheel issue, please help
Demonlordz 01-28-07, 11:54 AM I purchased the HLS5687W on Christmas EVE last year, its been working wonderfully since then.
Last week however, it began turning itself on, then the lamp light would flash, and it would shut off, if I were to turn it on again, it would turn back off after a couple seconds, this continued for about 10- 15 tries.
During that time, I could sometimes hear a faint circular saw-like sound coming from the tv, evidence the colour wheel may be broken.
I'll be calling Samsung monday to have it fixed, but I just wanted to know if I should consider anything else, also will they pay for the repair, part replacement and service if I am still under the warranty??
The tv is working now, but it did the same thing this morning and last night. Anyone else heard of this issue? Thanks.
The warranty is for a full year, so this will not cost you a dime. Just let them figure it out.

Did you get some resolution to this? My 5087 is doing EXACTLY the same thing. Not sure what the heck is going on. Samsung hasn't exactly been jumping through hoops to fix a two week old TV. I'm not terribly pleased at this point.
I bought a HL-T5087S from Best Buy about 6 months ago and I think I'm having the same issue. However, it occurs when I try to turn the TV off.
Baiscally, I turn off the TV and then I hear a spinning sound that starts, then stops, then starts, then stops (repeats like this a couple of times), and then the TV turns back on.
Usually, if I power it down again it turns off fine but I'm concerned that it's something I should get taken care of.
I bought the extended warranty from Best Buy. Should I use that or go through Samsung?

Anyway, I just had a Samsung service guy come out and he basically told me the sound is occurring because it sounds like the TV is turning itself back on before the lamp has a chance to shut itself off. He said that the sound is the power balast to the lamp and not the color wheel.
We then troubleshot with my remotes. I've been using a Logitech Harmony 880 to intreract with all my components, so we tried turning off the TV a number of times using the factory Samsung remote and the Logitech Harmony and it only happened with the Logitech Harmony remote.
So basically, the remote must be sending a double signal to my TV and when it sends the signal to turn it off, it then sends a second signal turning it back on.
Logitech Harmony support here I come.
