Targus 01-28-07, 01:32 PM They all carry the same digital audio signal, why would one sound better then the other? Rondog32837 01-28-07, 01:37 PM I'm a noobie and somewhat bewildered by all of the reading I have been doing, but I thought I had read something somewhere about optical lacking some bandwidth compared to the digital coax. Sorry to sound stupid, but I have not seen any recommendation in this area yet. Tulpa 01-28-07, 02:27 PM If you're talking standard DVDs, any coaxial or optical digital audio cable will work. HDMI would probably work, too, but it's going to be the same information, so you won't see an improvement. If you have something like Blu-Ray, which I believe uses full 7.1 surround sounds, that might be a different story. I'm not an expert, but I believe they do use a higher bandwith that regular digital audio cables don't have. But there you can use analog inputs or HDMI, if your receiver has those. Except that HDMI can carry high res stuff if the original poster(or others reading) is referring to HD-DVD or BRD. This is an important difference. SPDIF stuff is the same: optical or coax is the same. |
