We're looking for a speaker system for large parties (fairly big room with anywhere up to 500 ppl in the main room at a time). Currently the two amps we have overheat several times during the party. We have 2 250Watt and 2 600Watt unpowered speakers and two seperate tweeters. We're looking to completely redo the system, maybe using powered speakers. Does anyone have any suggestions for <$600. Oh, and we normally just play the music from a laptop.

How loud do you want it and how good do you want it to sound?

$600 isn't much of a budget for a good pro sound setup.

What amps and speakers are you using now?

it's for parties so the louder the better, The problem we're having now is that the amps overheat. The only decent amp we have which is 1280 Watts in A and B R/L channels but it's been abused and spilled on and not really worth much.
