Hi everyone,

Recently I had been looking into purchasing a new HDTV. I am a college student and can't afford a very expensive model so I was looking for something in the $1000 area. I don't need 1080p or a screen size larger than 46 inches. There was a great sale on the Toshiba 42HM66 at a store near my house last week so I decided to go ahead and pick it up while it was discounted. I always try to look for reviews of products before I purchase something, but after searching for hours I could find hardly anything regarding the Toshiba.

Anyway, this weekend the Samsung HL-S4266W went on sale for about the same price that I paid for the Toshiba. I have been considering taking the Toshiba back to pick up the Samsung due to its extra inputs and zoom modes (it has a second HDMI, and a second S-video that my Toshiba doesn't have. It also has a second Zoom mode) However, I'm also aware of the "black grass" problem that the Samsung has so I'm not sure whether I would prefer it to the Toshiba. I've been fairly happy with the picture on the Toshiba, but I can't help but think the extra inputs would be nice to have and perhaps the picture quality is slightly better.

Any opinions from anyone who has seen or owned either of these sets? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

Any of the major brands (Samsung, Tosh, or Mits) are excellent. I like Samsung due to excellent personal experience with that brand, but the others are also fine. Look at which has the features you want, and see which PQ you prefer.

Even if the 42" sammy is $200-300 lower than the Toshiba?

I have the 4266w and I like it alot. It does have plenty of inputs which meant alot to me because i am a gamer with multiple systems. I think mine does have the black grass defect but I only notice it when i turn off my tv (like 4 or 5 wavy lines converging to a point at the bottom center of the screen). I only see it when I turn the tv off and the picture going dark but the lamp hasn't turned off completely.

Anyways, I think thats what people are refering too.

The only problems I have with the tv is that it took me a while to get the setting right for my xbox 360, but thats probably because of my own ineptitude (I'm somewhat knew to all this). I wish there were more gaming/dlp threads regarding settings and levels. The other problem I have, or am having, pertains to the Nintendo Wii. It doesn't look good for some reason. Not sure if thats the tvs fault.

Anyways, both me and my girlfriend love the tv and it's size. 360 looks awesome on it, and the tv was really inexpensive (got it and a 2 yr warrenty for under $1000 two weeks ago). So far, it's the best tv I've boughten.
