Hi,

Local store is going to replace my Mits WD62725 due to long delay in getting parts - the people in the store are great - the phone people are terrible - my opinion only.

I paid almost $4,000 originally and therefor that is what I will have credit-wise to use for the swap. I think I am going to stay with a DLP. I wouldn't mind going with a wall mounted unit, but am leary of plasma and LCDs aren't big enough - at least in this price range. Am I wrong?

The Feb '07 issue of HomeTheatre Mag had a nice comparo on RPTV's but the store doesn't have the winner - the Sammy HL-S6188W, or one of the two runners-up, the Toshiba 62MX196. The other runner up was the Sony kds-r60xbr2.

The RPTV models they do have in stock are:

Mits WD65732 and WD73732
Sony Sxrd kds-r70xbr2
Samsung HL-s7178

I need to do the swap this week in order to get it - so which one do you all think I should go for??

The Mits WD65732 is the only one that is priced a lot less than my budget, but if I do that I don't think I will be able to apply the difference ($1,300) to anything else - I would just lose it.

What would you do???

Thanks for the help,
Paul

Id buy the Samsung HL-S7178W or the Samsung HL-S7187W. I like samsung better than sony, but definately dont go with the Mits IMO.

My choice would be the Sony 70XBR2, but if you and your family don't see rainbows (I do), then the HL-S7187W is a cheaper alternative.

I'd go with the Samsung 7178W, but I'm biased, because I have one and I love it. Check out the owner's threads for the TVs you are looking at. Each seems to have some type of issue, but all I can say is, mine is looking great now. I also really liked the Misubishi 73732.

Thank for the replies folks, can you tell me what you feel was superior about the Samsungs or Sony's?? I liked my Mits and would still have it if it hadn't taken so long to get it fixed - but I am hardly any pro at appreciating super fine differences in video or audio - never saw any rainbows with the previos unit either.

Neither is "superior" -- they are the best 2 sets, IMO, and it just comes down to personal preference.

Ok, I probably could have worded that better - maybe something like: were there specific features that one model might possess that another did not that might influence my buying decision? For instance I'm reading about overscan on/off and how not many models have the ability to change that for say the DVI input - as I might like to connect this next unit to a nice multi-media pc/server, that sort of feature or others like it might really help me to choose between models. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I got a Dec 12 manufacturing date on my HL-S6187W, and overscan STAYS off in the SM.

Also, the HL-S6187W accepts 1080P over component, which was a plus for my 360. Big plus :)

Go to a bestbuy and compare the Samsung with the Sony. Make your choice from that.

Press mute 1 8 2 power when the TV is off. Then you will enter the service menu and it will have a date in the lower bottom left. Dont enter if you dont know what you are getting into.

If your able to get the Mits 65831 get it instead. I prefer it over the Sony and Samsung.

In short:
Mits 65831>Sony XBR2>Toshiba 62MX196>Samsung S6188W>Mits 65732>Toshiba 62HMX196

In my opinion.

So the wd65732 can't accept 1080P over component?? Is that fact? What else would tend to be of interest feature-wise between these units??
