Hi,
I am a newbie here...this seems like a good place to put this, but if it's not, please tell me which forum I can post my question to.

I have narrowed my search down to these two tv's (I currently have a 27inch tube)

magnavox 37 inch lcd hdtv 37mf231d

OR

Akai 42 plasma hdtv (no tuner)

Target's has a hdtv tuner while fry's does not...but i'm thinking akai's extra size is worth the extra money. This TV will go in the bedroom and will be viewed from about 6-8 ft away. Mostly games/movies.

What do you guy's think?

Sorry, I don't know anything about either of those sets. You're really not supposed to be posting prices on this site. But, the most likley problem you'll run into is that most of the people on the sits are looking a top tier sets, where those are both lower tier. You may want to read some of the threads around & see if there is something a bit better that fits your budget.

I would also suggest that you look at something a little higher up the ladder than these two. I'm not suggesting that they aren't decent sets and might work for you since they would not be your main tv.

However, I've seen some good reviews on both the Olevia and the Westinghouse brands. I would say both of these are above the Akai and Magnavox brands. You might want to search the Olevia and Westinghouse threads here to see what others think.

Finally, since you do plan to do gaming, I would suggest that you stay with an LCD. With all the static images present in gaming, you do risk the possibility of burn-in on a plasma set.
