Hello Everyone,

I am in the process of finishing my basement, and my theater room will have 7 ft ceilings and be 20 ft. in length. I would like to purchase a 106" screen, which the top of the screen will be within 6 inches of the ceiling. I will have to mount the projector with a ceiling mount. Any ideas which projectors under $1500 would work in a scenario like this? Thanks

I would go for the Sanyo z5. You can also get a good deal on the older z4 model.

I have the same situation as you, ie 7' ceiling & 20' room in the basement. I got the Z5 & a 100" screen. I needed the lens shift & liked the reviews I read. I'm several weeks away from setting everything up.

I'm glad to see this thread. I just finished my home theater room in the basement. I have a hdtv dalite cinema vision 106" screen. I have the Z4. Love it BTW! Great value! I previously had it mounted (in other house) from the ceiling. My ceiling is between 8-9'. The room dimension are 12'x19'. I was doing some calculations I found that even at 19' the native (no zoom) Z4 picture won't be large to fill the 106" screen. So that got me thinking that maybe I should just shelf mount it. So as of right now I am debating between shelf and ceiling mount. I've read that its best not to use the lens shift capability. Because a projector is made to shoot the picture at an upward angle I worry that I will have to shift the lens downward a lot and it will reduce light output and image quality.
