Hello everyone. I have a problem that I just can't seem to fix without some help from the AVS experts. I'm trying to hookup my father's LG RU-42PX10 Plasma to his (Time Warner Cable) Scientific Atlanta 8300 HD DVR box. It has HDMI output, and the TV only has DVI (no HDMI). I hooked up the HDMI to DVI cable, but his picture looks horrible. I went to HBO HD and ESPN HD and there were flashes of white every few seconds and they were all over the screen. This never happened when using component cables  . I really want to use the DVI hookup because it is the better hookup, but I'm not sure how to adjust settings. The gentelman at LG tech service told me I should play with the refresh rate, but highly recommended just using component. I would rather troubleshoot and adjust what I can. Does anyone know how I would do this, or has anyone had success with this in the past? Thank you for any and all help!!

HDMI is not necessarily a better hookup. There is no difference in resolution quality and many people myself included do not even notice a slight difference in color quality which is possible.
Some combination of sending box and receiving box have problems if one or both ends are not HDMI since the DVI standards were not strict enough and not enough testing was done to be sure interface problems did not occur.
I know of no way to fix your problem if the LG Tech is not aware of any adjustrments in the TV service menu that may help the artifacts you are seing.
