View Full Version : ANY CREDIBILITY TO A SONY SXRD 80" in 2007 ??? WOLVERNOLE 01-29-07, 11:25 AM I saw some info on here a few days ago (cannot locate it now) and someone had claimed that Sony would have an 80" SXRD this summer ('07). Any credibility to this rumor? Hmmm. Dinomon 01-29-07, 11:36 AM If Sony release a 80" SXRD, that would be just too awesome.. NM_Toronto 01-29-07, 11:46 AM There were 80 - 85 inch LCOS RPTV screens on display at CES by some Asian manufacturers. I an not sure if Sony sources the screen from them, but the technology is there. NM_Toronto 01-29-07, 11:49 AM http://www.newtechspy.com/articles06/sonysxrd.html Sony’s *New Giant 80” TV* Triumphs with 2048 x 1152 resolution----Sony is preparing a Massive Monster TV. The Grand Wega SXRD 80” is a monument to the human need for bigger and better, and also a giant leap in rear projection technology. Sony believes their new Liquid Crystal on Silicon Technology (SXRD) makes for the finest picture available, and they intend to leverage that fact and bring out the ultimate TV, 80 inches, full 2.35 million pixels, 300,000 more than the highest HD standard, 1920x1080. ---As all of America starts to tear down walls and rearrange furniture, Sony is hard at work on a new technology that automatically flexes Regular and HD Narrow broadcasts to wide screen format seemlessly, instead of the take it or leave it HD screen formats being used today. This on the fly “SuperFlexing” (using those extra 300K pixels), takes away those annoying “black bars” on the sides of narrow band HD broadcasts and flexes the screen all the way to the edge, without the appearance of that stretched fat look to images on the screen...pretty slick. ---Sony hopes to have all this technology packed and ready by summer of ‘07. Can they do it all for the expected retail price of $4999 ?... that is in question, but we can hope.Janaury 16, 06 MSpeed6 01-29-07, 11:52 AM 5k?? more like probably 10k. 84jeepjohn 01-29-07, 10:53 PM I'd upgrade from my 60" for that if it's 5K Pcar928fan 02-01-07, 01:48 AM I'd upgrade from my 60" for that if it's 5K $5k my butt! If the 70" best price right NOW is $4747 at a B&M store, you can BET that bad boy will list at $12k or more! You might be able to BUY it for $8k, but I bet not less than that in the first 8-12 months it is on the market anyway! mcallister 02-01-07, 06:14 AM If the cost is only 5k good luck finding one within the first year of release. wsfanatic 02-01-07, 06:20 AM Sony traditionally announces its new models in February with availability beginning in the early summer months. skoolpsyk 02-01-07, 09:34 AM I'm holding out for an 80" sxrd. I think sony has a show in feb. but doesn't announce the high-end models until June (and released in the fall)? I think that's the way it was last year... jones07 02-01-07, 11:06 AM Only $5K huh, It will cost me a lot more then that for I would have to buy a larger house to find room for a 80" monster :p 84jeepjohn 02-02-07, 04:40 PM $5k my butt! If the 70" best price right NOW is $4747 at a B&M store, you can BET that bad boy will list at $12k or more! You might be able to BUY it for $8k, but I bet not less than that in the first 8-12 months it is on the market anyway! I was just quoting the origanal poster :) chrisclearman 02-02-07, 05:07 PM That would make me seriously reconsider a 1080p projector/screen. But I don't see anyway it's $5k PimpDadd 02-03-07, 12:46 AM Keep in mind guys that the website he quotes from put up the "rumor" over a YEAR AGO@! skoolpsyk 02-03-07, 02:00 AM yea, that $5k is in 2006 dollars! Netjoy69 05-18-07, 10:38 PM SONY currently references the 80" size on their web site!! This may be a prelude to the intro of the 80" SXRD. No model shown yet though. http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/_3Cwbrtarget=_blank_3EINTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_BrowseCatalog-Start?CategoryName=tv_size_50to80&Dept=tvvideo inky blacks 05-18-07, 11:08 PM I hope it uses lasers as lighting. 5k is a pipe dream. 10 to 15k is a more realistic estimate. 80" is a good size and could reduce demand for front projection. JVC showed a 110" at a show, but that may just be a publicity stunt. IB DavidHir 05-19-07, 12:36 AM Why not just get a projector once you exceed 70"? skoolpsyk 05-19-07, 11:37 AM Because for me, I want to use it for both moderate and minimal ambient light. inky blacks 05-19-07, 12:24 PM Why not just get a projector once you exceed 70"? I could watch 60 Minutes on a 85" screen, but a 120" screen might be a little annoying for news and ordinary TV shows. At 85", screen size becomes large enough for movies, but small enough for nightly news. That is a good combination for people who do not have room for a dedicated theater and who like viewing TV with the lights on. IB WOLVERNOLE 05-19-07, 06:53 PM Why not just get a projector once you exceed 70"? a) No drilling into the ceiling; b) No putting a "permanent" screen on the opposite wall; c) No replacing an expensive bulb (not to mention dimming throughout the process) every six months; d) Though admittedly a "good deal per inch," still a little bit more expensive than RP. e) brighter than FP and can find food and beverage (easier) during a football broadcast That's a good start. ;) Spaz007 05-20-07, 02:28 AM Does this SXRD come with optical block problems or does that feature cost extra? Joking.... :-P skoolpsyk 05-24-07, 07:19 PM Since it's not sounding good for an 80" sxrd this year has anyone heard about JVC? westa6969 05-25-07, 06:47 AM An 85" Hitachi Plasma debuts next summer and Panny and Hitachi will swap 85" and 103" panels with one another under a new mutual contract but of course the pricing and the weight of this glass would require professional installations as it stands now RPTV will continue to rule as these are lotto panels or for those with Bonus Checks from Goldman Sachs. I wouldn't be surprised once Sony has the Thin factor figured out and it works that the 80" Superflex panel SXRD thats been rumored for 1-2 yrs may come to market during the next year as it is odd that they added that 80" range to the website. :) skoolpsyk 05-25-07, 12:49 PM I wouldn't be surprised once Sony has the Thin factor figured out and it works that the 80" Superflex panel SXRD thats been rumored for 1-2 yrs may come to market during the next year as it is odd that they added that 80" range to the website. :) Yea, but that 80" range has been on their website for some time. I posted about it back on December 1st '06: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=9048618&&#post9048618 Dinomon 05-25-07, 03:05 PM the new SonyStyle site now has Rear Projection (50" to 80") Category: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=565 I guess this means Sony is coming up with the 80" XBR TV soon. yadfgp 05-30-07, 10:12 PM I think that the 80" they have listed is a typo, and should read 70" ;) |
