I recently got a PS3 and I'm trying to take my first step into the HD world, and after hours of pouring over this site and a few others I'm still a tad confused on a few issues. I've been looking at a few different refurb/used projectors and I'm still a little iffy on how their performace will be vs. the different aspects of HD the PS3 offers(movies vs. gaming). (I'm a college student so im strictly sticking to the refurb/used markets lol)

1. Take the Infocus Screenplay 5000. It has a native resolution (720p), and is compatible with 1080i, 1035i
576i, 576p.

I understand that this will excel at any game that is made with the 720p resolution. BluRay dvd's are in 1080p (or any game that's resolution is specifically 1080p)- does this mean that I wont be able to view BluRay movies or games in 1080p via my PS3 with this projector at all or that it just wont display in HD?

2. My other question - How about performance on a projector, say Sharp XR-10X, that doesnt have a true HD native resolution (4:3 aspect ratio with 1024x768 Pixels). I know it up/downscales 720p, 1080i, 1035i
540p, 576i, 576p and is a fan favorite around here but I'm pretty new to the game =P

Help~!

Skips the SP5000 and look into an HD1000U if you can. Only $899 from Projector People. There are sites online that have it about the same price or less except with free shipping. Just make sure they're trusted.

I'd also go with the Sharp XR-10x over the SP5000. I'd actually get a 480p Infocus IN72 over the SP5000 too. The SP5000's blacks are pretty weak.

Another projector to consider if $899 is too much is the Mitsubishi HC900U 1024x576p 16:9 DLP. It can be found pretty cheap nowadays and has an iris that you can use for improved contrast and blacks.

You'd probably like the SP5000 if it's your first projector, but there is better out there.

Digital projectors always display the same resolution. You'll be able to watch HD movies, but they will be converted to the projector's native resolution like everything else. If a projector doesn't accept 1080p you should be able to send it a resolution it can accept for Blu-Ray.
