I tried searching, couldn't find exactly what i was looking for...

I just bought a Harmony 550 yesterday and set it up. While it works fine, I'm kind of irritated with the on-remote on-screen menu system.

Is there any way that I can rename/re-order device-specific elements? I am aware that I can rename "Watch PVR" to Watch TV and re-order it, but if I am in a specific device, (Like my comcast DCT6412), how can I set it up to have ONDEMAND as a menu option and have it come up first? Likewise, i want certain buttons for my a/v receiver to come up in a specific order.

Is this possible? Or do I have to map these buttons to actual keys?

Your help is appreciated!

Unfortunately, the Harmony remotes don't let you reorder LCD commands within an Activity. It automatically sorts it by Device. The best you can do is set up an even number of LCD commands for each Activity to get some semblance of order.

It usually resorts the commands like this.

1 2
3 4
5 6

thx toker...

how do I even go about setting up the commands that I want? Do I just go the learning area of each device and just unselect items I don't want? I don't have my remote with me right now, just wondering.

The easiest way would be to go into the Activity you want and customize the buttons. You'll see the soft LCD commands at the bottom.

Don't forget it can be a PITA though. If you add a soft LCD command for a device, it will add that command to LCD command to every Activity that uses that device. So I would try to keep it simple.

For example, I only use Aspect Ratio and Video Status for my TV and Subtitle and Audio Language for my DVD player.

You shouldn't be using Device mode for common commands like "OnDemand". Device mode is only there for rarely used commands, and for troubleshooting purposes.

You should be adding all the commands you need to your "Watch PVR" activity.

This (https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/2952/) may be of interest. Currently broken, but the author is working on fixing it. Worked great for me when re-ordering the items on my LCD screen (before Logitech upgraded their software a few weeks back).

:) With the new Logitech software update you can now reorder your custom buttons in any order regardless of the device. Previously all custom buttons would be grouped by device in the order Logitech considered most important to the activity.

Also, the commands can be unique to each activity instead of showing up across the board any time the device is used in an activity. Blank pages and spaces/buttons are options too.

You have to be really specific on the setup pages now, and might have to delete some of your old button/commands to reorder them correctly. i.e. Your original commands now show up in blocks of 4 (Harmony 520) instead of 1 long column. I originally just deleted things from my setup thinking they would "re-stack" themselves. Instead I ended up with a blank first page and gaps/empty buttons on other pages of my lcd. Once you see how the page looks for the additional buttons you'll see what I'm talking about.

:( CAUTION! Many Harmony uses are unhappy with other changes to the new software . Check out the forum on the Logitech website for "bugs" before updating your software or remote first (I didn't see any posts on AVS). Apparently, once you update you can't go back to your old configuration. One of the main issues is the removal of multiple columns/devices for the button commands. Many users were using one button to control multiple devices, or adding multiples of the same device to run macros. In the new software there is now only one command, for a single device, per button in an activity.

Sorry for the long post.

Yes, I was looking into a dimmer switch in my home theater, because, in the past you could make the "pause" button both pause the DVD and raise the lights with one push of the button. Now without that, I'm holding off on buying the IR dimmer.
