I have NEVER had a Universal Remote and have been studying alot here in order to decide which one is for me..............most seem to do everything but slice your bread.
My question concerns this: Switching my system to watch a DVD, at present in order to do this, I have to ENTER my TV INPUTS, via it's Remote, and Change from Cable (on Component 2], to DVD [on Component 1], then Change my A/V Receiver to DVD from V1, then use my DVD Remote to turn it on.

With any Harmony or URC 8910 can I program ALL of those steps to ONE Key - OR - does the Harmony actually do all of that for me [when it sets it up via the WEB]?

www.remotecentral.com is a good place to start research. There are very detailed reviews on both lines.

I have the Harmony remote and it will do everything you are asking via web programming. But the web programming is very clunky and is set up for the average user.

I'm not familiar with the URC remotes, but I'm positive it will do everything you are asking with one button press also.

One more and, I believe, FINAL question before I can make my mind up, and it too concerns Programming a Harmony U. Remote.
I have run the Trial Setup at Logi's Harmony site and told the Program that I use my SAT Receiver for controlling Channels etc......I need to know this: After it turns on my TV, SAT Receiver, and A/V Receiver and I am watching TV, will it be Setup some way where I can use the Harmony alone to Change Picture Formats [PAGE button on Dish Remote; HD Normal, Stretch etc.]; RECALL - [view previous channel]; access my regular DISH Program Guide - Favorites etc.; see INFO on particular TV Programs using info like button present on DISH remote....access the DISH Receiver Menu [SAT setup etc.].

Are these and more actually Setup via the wEB for you - after you have told them that you are using a DISH 211 Receiver - OR - do you have to manually program these and then aftder you turn everything on - you would choose DEVICE and go into that partticular device and command it?

PLEASE advise and......

You basically can set the remote up as you want. Harmony remotes are based on Activities, not devices. While you can go into the Device mode to control a device directly, most of the time you will be in the Activity mode. You basically can mix and match whatever buttons you want and can make them send whatever command you want.

So you would customize the LCD screen to show whatever commands you want. For example, if you watch a DVD, you can put things like Subtitle and Audio Language in the LCD along with a Aspect Ratio to control your TV and a Dolby Pro Logic II button to control your receiver. It basically becomes a full mixed device remote.

BTW, the "Trial Tour" only shows a fraction of the customization on the site.

If you can afford...get the Harmony 1000. It has state memory, so it cganges what needs to be changed only, and the same for power on/off.

- All of the Harmony remotes can do that. The only benefit (downside to some) of the 1000 is that it has a LCD touchscreen. Personally, I don't think it will be an improvement unless you can customize the LCD order of the buttons in an Activity. You can't do it for any other Harmony, which is the biggest flaw with the remotes.
