I just got my new samsung 5087 when the screen is all Black there is a little part on the upper left side of screen that is a lot lighter but in color scenes its not noticeable. Just in dark or black scenes. And its in one little spot. Should i be concerned?

Hardly noticeable unless you are looking for it. But will it get worse?

Are you sure you're not seeing a reflection from the room somewhere? The reason I say this, is because it happened to me yesterday when I saw a strange "light spot" I freaked---then realized it was light from my window...

no this is definetly a lighter spot on the screen that takes the same shape but only can be seen on dark or black backgrounds. All colored backgrounds fill the spot as it should. But when the screen is black you can clearly see the spot that is way lighter.

But when the screen is black you can clearly see the spot that is way lighter.Probably there is some light escaping from the light engine of your new TV. If it doesn't bother you now, it shouldn't change over time. If your set is good in every other respect you might want to wait a few days.

You don't say if you bought from a local dealer that offers a "no charge to you" return policy for the first thirty days. If you did buy from someone like that then it's a no brainer. Ask for an exchange if you aren't happy with the set.

Every other option will have some risk so you need to be sure about how you feel about your current TV.

The only repair that they can do is to replace the light engine, and how good that repair will be depends on the skill of the person doing the work.

What does your screen look like at night when there are no lights in the room and the set is off?

If you turn it on, under the same conditions, and there is no active source, do you get a black screen? If so, what does that look like? Black screens are not really black with current technology. They will have a "glow" and look dark gray.

On my set (2004 HLP model) if I turn off the source that I"m watching (STB or DVD player) and then turn off the TV the screen will continue to "glow" for a few seconds. The screen goes totally black when the lamp finally shuts down if there is no other light in the room. I don't see any light pattern during that time.

Of course, any light in a room that can directly reach the screen will cause light spots on the screen regardless of whether the TV is on or off.
