I could be wrong, but I think you have to ask for the gift reciept when you buy the movie, then you say that someone gave you the movie as a gift, but you only have the gift reciept.

I am not sure if it would work with the original reciept that shows buy one get one free on it.

I guess that wasn't much help...sorry

I say try to take it back, and let us know how it goes.

Yeah, you should have to ask for a gift receipt when you actually make the purchase...unless you can find a BB employee who doesnt pay that much attention to the details :)

I am wondering this...let's say that you go in and buy 1, get 1 free and ask for a gift receipt...Won't the gift receipt only be valid for the price of ONE movie, not both? I am thinking that you might have to at least keep one of the titles on the list.

For those that have avoided House of Flying Daggers due to bad reviews, I would ask that you reconsider. I too was hesitant to pick it up due to all the bad press and already having a very nice 2-disc Edko R3 version of the film. I am a huge fan of genre and Asian cinema, so I said, what the heck, it's only $12.50 after the deal.

I was pleasently surprised with the disc. It is soft at times, but I am now thinking that it may have something to do with camera focus in addition to transfer issues. Certain close-up shots are super sharp and what you would expect with proper 1080P transfer. The audio was solid with perhaps best use of surrounds among all transfers (Drum dance sequence has been my demo for surround system since I got the original SD DVD), and even the plain DD sound very good in comparison to DTS ES on SD DVD (I can't play uncompressed PCM surround with my PS3 setup).

With the current promotion, it's a no brainer IMHO, especially if there is another disc in the list that you are considering.

I ordered six of these online during the last sale. I was at BB within 20 minutes of completing the online order. When I arrived at the store, the online order was not in their system yet. So, they looked at my receipt & fulfilled the order. They forgot to tell the system I picked up my disc's........ :)

Few days later I received an e-mail my order was cancelled. I received all six for free.

And the gift receipt thing only works sometimes. It essentially will give you credit for HALF the price, not full amount.

When I got home, I went to my Best Buy and returned it without the receipt. I got store credit in the amount that they sold the discs for. So, if you have multiple Best Buys, maybe purchase at one and try returning the disc to another for store credit.

This really only works if you haven't returned mutiple items in the past without receipts. I got a few present for xmas without gift or original receipts and it really all depends on the person that you get at the register. I think the maximum is three item returns a year without receipts...some employees are incredibly stiff and won't budge on the issue, but you get the ones that hate being there, preferbly a guy with a punk attitude and he won't care about anything.

Just speaking from experience, it won't matter if you buy from one, and return to another...their systems are all conncected.

Not necessarily. My son got a copy of a full screen movie for his birthday. Don't worry, I've forbidden him from playing with that friend again. Sadly, I'm sure the parents had a hand in this. ;) Anyway, I took the movie back to Walmart to exchange it for the WS version. Told them I thought it was purchased at their store, but Walmart's UPC was different than the original store on this title. I eventually found it was a movie from Target. So the lesson learned is some titles may have UPC's that are exclusive to that chain.

After Christmas they have an 'open door' return policy. That is no longer in effect. No receipt = no return. Sure, there will be YMMV scenarios, but I wouldn't count too much on that especially which BR/HD which are small and easy to steal.

If you are referring to Walmart, then yes, as long as the UPC's are the same you shouldn't have any problem. Apparently, as someone posted earlier in the thread, some stores may get exclusive UPC's. I would say write the UPC # down on a piece of paper and leave the disc in the car. Walk into Walmart, check the UPC and if it matches, go get your disc and return it.

I just purchased this Blu Ray title and compared with the superbit edition it its better than the DVD. There is a bit more detail and colors are a tad better in many scenes. The display at the store looked worse than in my setup from what I remember probably due to the Samsung making things worse. I say for the current sale price which is half off its worth the extra few dollars you would need to fork out if you sold your DVD. Nowhere near as good as top titles like Riddick or Underworld but better than DVD.

I picked TFE today and I don't see why everyone is saying it's so bad. Maybe it was because this was reviewed using the Samsung with the original firmware. I don't know. I have the Superbit, using an up converting player, and I can definitely tell the difference. Colors seem to really pop more and I see better detail with the Blu Ray. It's almost a no lose situation to pick it up with this deal, because apparently Sony is re-releasing the Blu Ray with a better transfer this year and if you have the original Blu Ray, Sony will swap out the old one for the new one.

I stopped by Best Buy and picked up:

Click (Kate Beckinsale, huh-hotness!) & Monster House (great transfer and fun movie)
Into the Blue (Jessica Alba :)) & The 5th Element (I might sell on Ebay)

I picked up a BB gift card at the counter which gives you 6000 rewards points when buying 2 dvds of $14.99 value. So all in all, not a bad deal.

I love these deals. Here's the loop hole folks.......

Gift receipts.

Get one and after the sale ends bring back the movie(s) and swap them out for something you really want.

Works everytime, and not just with games, and movies.

Cheers.

Was anybody able to pull something like this off? Did you use a gift receipt to pull it off? Was anybody able to do it without a receipt?

I doubt i can exchange them at Walmart since these movies have one sticker, and one sticker only on them, and that one sticker says "Best Buy" on it.

I was able to exchange four Blu-rays(2 on each visit) at Wal-mart couple of weeks back when Bestbuy had this BOGO sale. But on the second time the person at the Customer Service had to get Manager's approval. He said that if I exchange without receipt more than once in certain period of time, the system will automatically blacklist me/

"Underworld: Evolution" PQ is excellent. I will rated one of the top in Blu-Ray. And I have "Crank", "Open Season", "Corpse Bride", etc...

However, "Into the Blue" is not all that great. I really didn't like the overly saturated color. Especially the skin tone. If you like Jessica Alba, then it worth a look.

Highly Recommend: KUNG FU HUSTLE, very details and vivid colors. One of my favourite blu-ray disc. And the movie is simply awesome. The more I watch, the more I like it. :) Hopefully, someone can release "SHAOLIN SOCCER" in the same quality. I shall keep on dreaming. :(

The ad does not state the free blu-ray disc needs to be from one of the six Sony pictures listed. I purchased Click along with Goodfellas (Warner). Yes it had BestBuy sticker on them but I carefully removed them (making sure not to damage the seal) and I did not had any problems returning them :)I saw some BDs at Circuit City with "Best Buy" price stickers on them. The CC salesperson I spoke to about it said they weren't FROM Best Buy - they were just really really good buys. Made me wonder if all BD price stickers say "Best Buy" on them.

I negotiate for a living and was a championship debater in high school. There was no way in Hell I was leaving Best Buy without "Into the Blue" at the sticker price and "Blackhawk Down" for free last Saturday. My checker called the store manager over when I explained that the wording of their ad in the circular was not written to be exclusive to the 6 movies advertised (in other words, I shouldn't be punished for their ambiguity). Therefore, they needed to honor their own ad and allow me to have "Blackhawk Down" for free. I don't know if I was convincing or if the manager just didn't feel like arguing over $25, but I paid $25 total for Jessica Alba in a bikini  and a documentary illustrating why Clinton was one of the worst presidents/human beings in the history of this country. :D

There is NO MENTION on the ad that the free movie has to be out of the six that are mentioned in the ad. All it says is that "free movie should be equal or lesser value". So as a customer I have EVERY RIGHT to challenge that.

BB sucks IMO!

This is the second time that my local BB did not have all the movies in stock on the first day of the sale. The first time they had zero of them. This time they had 3 of them but not the 2 I really wanted. I know I can get them online but that doesn't come with the instant gratification of buying in-store getting home and popping a movie in the player.

They also had a lot more HD DVD titles in stock than Blu-rays judging by the numbers of discs with their spines facing out. And the Blu-ray discs they had were more expensive than just about everywhere else.

Clint definitely at least twice the man since during his term the stock market inflated to umpalumpa levels and all manufacturing left to China along with some some nice space launch vehicles.

Back to the topic....I went to Best Buy and I picked out a couple of movies clearly pictured on the ad one being The Fifth Element which is clearly better than the superbit but not quite up to par with current titles like Crank.

But...like ajamils said, nowhere does that technically state the you must get the "free" BluRay disc from the listed 6 titles. It implies that you can get one free BluRay disc for free, they should have worded it differently.

I think some of those on this thread that are so quick to judge others are missing the point. Unless you work for Sony or Best Buy, how do you truly know what the intent of the ad is? Do you know 100% for a fact that the deal was intended to only include a free choice from one of the other 2 movies listed at that price? If so, why not make the rules clear? The wording is extremely ambiguous. They very easily could have made it more clear if their intent was indeed to limit it to the movies shown.

As far as the people who are truly scamming with the gift receipts and what not, well that's like returning fruit that you didn't eat 2 weeks later to Costco. Will they take it back? You bet (I've seen people do it). Does it make it right? I personally don't think so and wouldn't do it.

In summary, those of us that chose one of the movies pictured and also picked up a free movie at equal or lesser value that was not pictured have clearly stayed within the exact guidelines setout by the ad itsef as it is worded. People make an excellent living making a case for how to interpret unclearly worded material. They're called attorneys (and no, I am not one). :)

"Buy 1 of these Blu-ray Discs and get 1 free." The implication is "Buy 1 of these Blu-ray Discs and get 1 of these Blu-ray Discs free."

The wording on the order page on bestbuy.com is very clear:

Buy 1, get 1 free!

Choose two Blu-ray Discs from a select list and get the lower-priced one for free.

You've proven my point exactly. If it was so easy to make the wording that precise on-line, then why not do the same in the circular if the intent was the same for both? Are you 100% sure that the intent was the same for both (the on-line deal and the in-store deal)? How can you be 100% sure?

I have absolutely no qualms with anyone trying to get a different disc and am not questioning anyone's integrity, but even you NoUserName22 know the true intent of the sale.

1) If you put them in your cart online, it will only work with two titles from the selected list.
2) To believe that they are running a buy one from this list get one from this list free on bestbuy online and a buy one from THE SAME LIST and get any one free in-store is nothing short of naive. You, I, and everyone out there know 100% this is not the intent, but that doesn't even matter because up next we have...
3) The IN-STORE computer does not put the discout in unless both movies are from the list.
4) This is a Sony Pictures promotion, not a Best Buy promotion. Sony is eating the cost on this, not Best Buy. All of the movies in the offer are from Sony Pictures. They are not going to pay for you to get other studio's movies for free.

You can get down and dirty into all the technicalities and workarounds you want but we all know what the true intention of the offer is and you're only lying to yourself to make yourself feel better.

"Technically" a speed limit sign doesn't say "miles per hour" on it, but you know that if you go 100 in a 45 you can't honestly say to yourself "oh I thought it was 45 parsecs per hour so I don't really feel bad about it".

Interesting information. I knew nothing about the on-line offer until it was mentioned here and still have yet to even look at it. Why? Because I've found that the BB on-line pricing can often be higher than the in-store pricing, so I never go there.

I still counter that anyone can accurately infer with 100% certainty the intent of the circular ad. Even if the intent is different, we've done nothing wrong simply because we've benefitted from their poor word choice. Have you ever heard the phrase "The customer is always right?" In this case, because of their wording, we are. :)

Now, that information about Sony potentially having to eat any cost differential gives me HAPPY PANTS! :D I'll have to get A LOT of free discs to make up for the fact that I was an early adopter of their SXRD technology. ;)
