I am trying to hide my cable box in a closet approximately 2 feet away from the television. I am in search of a low-profile remote recevier to be mounted near the television. This would transfer the remote signals to the front of the cable box.

What is my sleekest, most affordable option? I am trying to avoid bulky units that require to be plugged in at both ends (aka Leap Frog).

Also, on the back of this cable box there is an IR port. Is this enabled? What can it be used for? Can it be used with some sort of receiver? I called comcast and they know nothing about this cable box other than how to turn it on. (ha ha ha).
