I'm looking for a DVD player for my new home system.
Reciever - Onkyo TX-SR804
Project - Panisonic PT-AX100U
I'm running HDMI to my projector.
Please share your opinions and why?
Thanks!

Not to sound like a Jacka$$, but we probably need a few more details from you, such as price, what you need the player to do (SACD, DVD-A, etc.), want 1080i/p upscaling, etc.
Currently, there's a lot of good 1-2 year old high performance DVD players on the market from Denon, Elite, Marantz, etc. I recently picked up a Denon 3910 for a truly universal player. Looks pretty good on my 1080p LCD. Also looking forward to it's mult-channel audio performance once everything else falls into place. Is multi-channel audio imprortant to you?
I have a buddy running an Oppo 971 to his Panny projector and is very pleased with it. If you have around a 200ish budget, this may work.

Thanks for the tip. I guess I just wanted everyone to read my mind! :) I've been reading all these threads and I'm getting overwhelmed.
I'm not sure I want to spend the money on HD or Blue Ray yet until that gets figured out.
I'm willing to spend up to about $250. Obviously, want the best picture for the buck. I believe the Pani displays in 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i formats.
I watch DVDs and listen to a few CDs. I currently have a Samsung DVD-HD850 on my system upstairs and it plays everything I've tried.
Other than that, I'm clueless.
I greatly appreciate any advice or things to look out for.
Thanks!

Some samsung models are good as well as Oppo and then some denon and panasonic dvd players ,and pioneer will be releasing some other contenders.
If you can go to $350 you can get a Denon DVD-1930CI. It will scale to 1080p and will serve until the HD/BR players have sorted out all their issues.

After more reading on this thread, I decided to go with the Oppo 981. Hopefully, I'll be satisfied like many others are.
Thanks again!
