I'm new to using HDMI and my HD1000U is the first component I've owned that uses it. I decided I wanted to connect my Dell E1705 to the project so I purchased this cable:

I plugged the DVI end to the laptop's DVI out and the HDMI to the input on the projector. I started up both components and everything worked great! In fact, it booted and tried to run at 1920x1080i@30hz! While I appreciated the high res, the slow refresh was murderous on the eyes so I shut it back down to 1280x720p @60hz. I operated like this for several days (disconnecting to take the laptop to work and reconnecting at night).
About 3 days into this, I got home and hooked up and suddenly the projector wasn't displaying anything. The laptop still showed the projector as a monitor output, I could set properties and settings for it, but no image appeared. The HD1000U just displayed: "No Signal".
I've checked my connections, my resolution, my refresh rates from the laptop and everything seems kosher. The only difference I've noticed is that my Menu on the HD1000U is showing 1080i instead of the 720p I vaguely remember being there. I've tried the laptop pushing 1920x1080i, 1280x720p, and nothing seems to work :-(
Is there some trick to using HDMI that could be causing this behavior? I'm really at a loss where to go from here. Is there a big signal quality loss dropping back to using the VGA output from the laptop instead of the DVI/HDMI route?
