I was looking at the 'HD Wars' (http://dvdempire.com/Content/Features/hidef_wars.asp) on DVD Empire and noticed some interesting things... plus it seems that they have removed pre-orders from the list so we see actual sales of shipping titles.

For both formats, exclusive studios appear to be doing well.

1. Resident Evil: Apocalypse
2. Crank
3. Employee Of The Month
4. Saw III: Unrated
5. Covenant, The
6. Guardian, The
7. Saw II
8. GoodFellas
9. X-Men: The Last Stand
10. Pearl Harbor

Format neutral Warner comes in and number 8 and Paramount is missing entirely.

Lionsgate seems to have a great share at the moment - no doubt bouyed by having quite a number of releases this year already.

1. Poseidon
2. Mummy Returns, The
3. Lucky # Slevin
4. Clerks II
5. Eagles: Farewell 1 Tour - Live From Melbourne
6. Sting, The
7. Mummy, The
8. Superman Returns (DVD & HD DVD Combo)
9. HDScape Exotic Saltwater Aquarium (DVD & HD Combo)
10. Brokeback Mountain: Collector's Edition (DVD & HD DVD Combo)

Warner is doing better on the HD DVD side. Universal also doing well and Weinstein is in there too.

Not to mention the Exotic Saltwater Aquarium beating out the Paramount titles. :D

Combos - not so hot, but still beating out Paramount.

Overall I think the most interesting aspect is seeing the exclusive studios doing very well against the likes of Warner and especially Paramount.

I think that on the BD list, you're mostly going to see BD only titles because people are only buying them on BD if they're not available on hd-dvd. If a title is released on both formats, most people will buy in on hd-dvd. I know I saw a post indicating that WB said that they were selling 2x as many hd-dvds compared to blu-ray.

Exactly.

I'm sure a lot (most?) BD owners also own HD DVD. The same cannot be said the other way around.

On this site, at least, we know for a fact that Blu-ray is outselling 2:1, so saying that most people are picking up HD DVD if they own both is incorrect.

According to who/what poll? This poll from this very site HD DVD has more than double the votes of Blu-ray.

I don't think that is true, especially with the HD-DVD/DVD discs being $5 more than blu-ray discs. There was a poll at the HD-DVD software section where over 80% preferred non-combo's over combo's. I'm sure many will also take it on a case-by case basis.

In addition, on Amazon, currently for the two top titles available in both formats, The Departed and Babel, the BD version is a better rank in both cases than the HD DVD version.

The term "this site" was referencing to the site where the data was collected - DVDEmpire - where Blu-ray holds 62.9% of the weekly market.

yeah well what do you expect? look at the HD DVD releases lately.

Even *I* will give BD that much credit.

I know I saw a post indicating that WB said that they were selling 2x as many hd-dvds compared to blu-ray.That comment was likely about last year. I don't believe that is true for runrate at the moment.

so, will you be saying the same as long as HD DVD survives? It is not like that will change.
