I saw this posted on the FatWallet forum tonight:

To provide you with the best possible setup tools, THX is offering THX Optimizer Blue Glasses free of charge, for a limited time only. Please complete and submit this form to receive your free pair. (http://www.thx.com/home/dvd/blueglasses.html)

Normally, there's a $4 shipping and handling fee, but for a limited time they're free.

There are better options out there, but not for the price.

Thank you very much! My Avia blue filter has so many smudges and wrinkles on it that it is barely usable anymore. I should paypal you $4 dollars for this great find! :D

haha thnx, i dont know what it does but its free :D lmao. They are used for calibrating your display - adjustment of the Color and Tint controls - used with a calibration DVD like AVIA, DVE or the GetGray Caldisc (www.calibrate.tv).

I have them, but I went ahead and ordered another "freebie" pair - they are easier to use than the strips of colored filters that come with AVIA or DVE.

So these blue glasses are not just to use with THX Optimizer? It's the same color blue you'd use with Avia, etc? I can't get the link to work.

I don't know if they are the same color. No filter is perfect. The blue filter from THX is likely not to be exactly the same as that from Avia, nor that from DVE (and the Avia and DVE filters differ from each other). You can use any of these filters interchangeably, with differing results on different technologies and amongst themselves.

I can't get the link to work.It is the same as the AVIA filter, Kodak Deep Blue Tricolor #47B. This is also the same as the Lee Filter's Tokyo Blue #071. From the testing that GetGray, and others did, there is no discrernable difference between the THX glasses filter and the #47B filters. The Blue filter in the DVE filter set is physically darker in color.

It is not keyed to only THX Otimizer use, but can be used with any calibration DVD, that has the Color & Tint calibration test pattern. These "glasses" are much easier to use, since they don't have to be held in place by hand. Because they have black surrounds, they also have much less light leakage around the edges of the filter.

I went ahead and sent in for one, also. That will give me 2 spares.

I got mine last week as well. For some reason, I was expecting them to be plastic, not cardboard.

Not that I'm complaining. Free is free!

I had my glasses sent to my Fiancé's house and when they arrived, I put them with my calibration gear. One week later and last anybody saw of them, they were in the garbage :(
