Hi there,

I’ve my PLV-Z5 projector and it’s really great. But I need to find a good DVD player, and not too expensive as well…
I’ve made some test with a LG DN191H. PQ was good to me, but I was not able to make it region free (I’m French and have a lot of Region2/PAL DVDs). I’ve also made some test with the Philips 5960. Easy to set “Region free”, but the image quality is not really good. And there is no DTS support!
I was thinking about the OPPO 970 HD….but OPPO support recommends the 981HD to watch my PAL DVD: “We highly recommend the use of the DV-981HD product as this DVD unit will do the proper decoding of PAL films due to its 2:2 Cadence support. This DVD player will produce the highest quality video on your Sanyo Z5 projector" But I’m afraid about macroblocking issue!!!!
Does anyone have some experience with HD981 and PLV-Z5?
What do you think about 970 vs 981 for PAL discs (and I also have some NSTC discs of course)
Someone on this forum also suggested the DENON 3910….but it’s really too expensive!!!
Any other suggestion, or comments?

Thanks

I have the Sanyo PLV-Z3 and Panasonic PT-L500U 720p LCD projectors and a couple of Faroudja FLI23xx players and don't see any issue with macroblocking enhancement. I agree with Oppo, the DV-981HD would be a great choice especially if you want SACD/DVD-A playback. If SACD isn't needed, get the DV971H refurbished from Oppo and save a little money.

Sorry, but what is exactly SACD? Audio encoding for CD (only audio)
In this case, no...I don't need SACD
For PAL disc, do you think there is a difference between 971 and 981?

Thanks

Sorry, but what is exactly SACD?..

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Audio_CD

I am using Panasonic S97 (Faroudja) with Z5 without any issues. Excellent picture. So Oppo should be fine.
