View Full Version : Beatles DVD-A title"Love"
tunerguy 01-31-07, 09:17 AM I was browsing the cd rack at wallyworld & noticed that the remix of Beatles stuff mixed by ex producer Billy Martin has a dvd-a disc in it. I was wondering how it sounded. It almost made me run out & get a universal player.Right now I just have a standalone SA-CD player.
Ovation 01-31-07, 09:32 AM If you want to know how the mix sounds, even if not in hi-res, the DVD-A will play on a standard DVD-V player via DD. And the producer is George Martin, not Billy (who was, of course, the famously angry manager of the NY Yankees in the 70s).

That's why they call Billy Martin "The Fifth Beatle".
in reference to the fifth beatle it was bllly preston
george martin was the producer.
Jack Gilvey 01-31-07, 05:00 PM A few people have been called that (DJ "Murray the K" comes to mind), but none have even approached Sir Martin's influence or contribution...not even close. As far as I'm concerned, he's the fifth.
I thought it was Pete Best ;)
the beatles anthology will give a lot of info
if you are a fan it is worth owning.
This is one of the best DVD-Audio disc I own. If you are a Beatles fan it is a must have!
gigaguy 02-01-07, 10:56 AM from Wikipedia-
"Stuart Sutcliffe was an art school friend of John Lennon's, he was the original bassist of the British rock band The Beatles for two years, and is often credited for naming the band (after Buddy Holly's band The Crickets). Along with former drummer Pete Best, he can accurately be called one of only six true members of The Beatles. Sutcliffe is often referred to as "the fifth Beatle".
But I agree, George Martin was crucial to their recordings. I'd say Brian Epstein too. don't forget Yoko!!
Jack Gilvey 02-01-07, 11:30 AM Yeah, only two other actual members. I look at the "fifth" in terms of influence and contribution, which gets me to (George) Martin. Stu used to have his back to the audience so they couldn't see he couldn't play. ;)
Joe Hendrix 02-01-07, 12:15 PM I have the non DVD-A recording of Love. Is the DVD-A that much better?
Jack Gilvey 02-01-07, 12:30 PM Yes. The stereo cd is very good, I keep that one in the car. The 5.1 mix is astounding, though...DTS is fantastic, the DVD-A takes it up a notch.

If you are "surround ready", the DVD-A is a must. Also, I would bet that in a few years it will no longer be available..............so, as they say, "Grab it when you see it on sale!" :)
