I've been using my Olevia 232V (32") LCD for couple of months and I never did any calibration or anything....just used it out of the box. Since this is my first HD Tv, to me everything seems to be ok but my friend keep telling me that I should "CALIBRATE" the TV to get the best possible picture (for Blu-ray movies).
I have absolutely no clue about what he means by that or how I can calibrate my TV. Any help would be appreciated.

Grab any THX DVD ... like any of the Star Wars films or big Disney films ... and look for something called the THX optimode ... use it. It's a start to this wonderful obsession we call calibration.

I read somewhere that you can access the Calibration more on Black Hawk Down Blu-ray using Ps3 remote...but I can't seem to find that post. Does anyone know what code it is ?

Greetings
From the Sony patterns ... you might be able to do image centering ... brightness ... contrast and color and tint and sharpness items ... if you know how to do that. The information is there in the patterns themselves ...
No "how to" though ... get that through research ...

Your Olevia manual tells you how to use the "User Menu" options to do the basic adjustments for Brightness (Black level), Contrast (White level), Color (Saturation) and Tint (Hue). You can buy the AVIA "Guide to Home Theater" calibration DVD (on-line vendors. like Amazon, are the best sources). It will walk you throught the calibration process (if you carefully listen to the instructions, and ignore the stuff for CRTs). There are also a lot of calibration descriptions in this forum, read them. A general discussion of calibration can be found here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=4969789#post4969789.
There is another "calibration" DVD, the Monster/ISF Calibration Wizard. This is a low cost, DVD which does not use test patterns, but uses video clips to accomplish a simplified calibration. It is marketed by Monster, they did not make it.
NOTE: The AVIA DVD includes a set of colored filters for use in setting the Color and Tint, these may be missing from versions sold on eBay, or obtained from rental outlets. Also, be aware that some adjustments may not be available when the HDMI input is used (in many posts in various calibration threads). I have a 27" Olevia LCD display (bedroom, HDMI connection to a DirecTV STB) and I found that it less finicky than some of the more expensive sets. I was able to adjust it for a very nice picture, by eye (but I have lots of experience calibrating displays). I have not used any of my calibration DVDs on it yet, but Discovery HD Theater looks spectacular.
However, both of these DVDs are better than the THX Optimizer patterns that are on some DVDs, like Star Wars, etc. The THX patterns are keyed to the DVDs that they are on, and do not necessarily provide the "correct" general calibration. Unless you are willing to spend the money on professional calibration, you will have to spend some "sweat equity" in reading up on calibration, and buy a calibration DVD (a small investment that costs less than a dinner for 2 in a good restaurant, or even a "family" restaurant like Denny's).

thank you for your insight. I'll try to use the Sony Calibration patterns and see what I can achieve
