After reading through a lot of great information, one of the few questions I have left is can I do custom resolutions through Linux?

I'm looking at Ubunto and currently I use PowerStrip in WinXP to provide a custom 1024x576 resolution for my default 1024x768 projector. Is this possible through Linux? I'm hoping to get a new 16:9 720 projector soon, but waiting on financial eval, until then I'm stuck.
