Looking for good dvd player for my new sxrd 1080p.
Which one sould i get??
OPPO DV970 OR SONY NS75H
Iv seen lots of people going with the DV970 over the NS75H but it would cost me about $60 more.
Or do i really need to go with something that outputs 1080p like the OPP0 DV981?
Is it a huge difference from 1080i and 1080p on dvd players? For the average Joe, would they see a bid difference that would make paying more for DV981 worth it?
thanks!!

Considering what you spent on that 1080p set, why not get the Toshiba A-1 for a little over $300? About twice the cost of the Oppo but does as good a job upconverting SD and plays HD.
Upconverting SD to 1080i/1080p doesn't really make any difference. It starts with the same 480i source.
NATIVE 1080p content is a much bigger difference.

HD-DVD and Blueray DVDs allow up to 1080p/24fps.
The main point is that it begins and ends with the source.
You can only do so much with the 480i source on standard DVDs. You can well mastered discs look as good as the HD-Lite stations from satellite/cable, but they will not look as good as over the air HD broadcast locally.
The HD-DVD/Blueray CAN look as good as anything you can possibly view. Of course, some are mastered better than others.

thanks for the info chris
Right now since i rarely ever watch dvd's and just watch movies from hbo, cinemax, stars etc
Do you think i should just get either the OPPO DV970 OR SONY NS75H for now and once these HD and Blueray come down in price buy one of those later on?
thanks!

If you are deciding between those two, the Oppo 970 is probably worth the extra $30 or so for you.
