Does anyone know if The original Homeworks Ver 3.0 approx 15 years old is capable of integrating with crestron via a protocol and not hard relays via the old style homeworks relay keypads. Am I spinnig my wheels even considering this

Yes, you shoud be able to do this as the unit (Lutron) does have the RS232 port... it may require more programming on the Creston side hwoever than the newest Lutron Interactive system. Your could always upgrade your Lutron processors... may be an option
Yes we are in the process of working quotes out to upgrade the house but it has 5 processors 60 keypads and numerous switches/dimmers We want to make sure before the crestron contract is signed we can get communication in the original homeworks as it will be some time to convert to interactive. Any links you can point me too to read up on this topic of the original homeworks system as lutrn really doesnt support it too much anymore
When I am back in my office, I will open the old version and check it out. Is it possible for you to send me the data base if i need to see it?

We just finished a job with an old homeworks system...About 9-10 years old..Not the interactive system....8 panels, probably over 100KP's and a few dozen Vareo switches, Integrated fine with crestron and included feedback to the crestron as well
Works fine with no issues, the 232 strings were pretty basicwe set up most of the crestron control over Phantom KP's to keep the button press numbering easier to deal with
The house is about 6000 sq feet with a seperate entertaining building thats about 6000 sqft as well, we have 5 crestron processors in the system and have 2 connections to the homeworks system...one in each structure
As Glackowitz says, yes you can.
When you plan on doing the upgrade for the HomeWorks system, I believe you may need to use less processors. If I remember correctly, the old system required a processor at each power panel, which is not the case with the current release of there Interactive and Illumination system [Interactive processors can only be ordered as replacements for Interactive processors, not new projects] [I'm only familiar with Interactive and Illuminationas far as programming and specifying equipment]
You should contact a Lutron Rep or Installer in your area and before you start work running wires for the Crestron system, have them review with you your options and run whatever wire you need now.
Hope this helps
Was actually curious so I called HomeWorks support and I was right. Depending on what wires you have in place or if you can get wiring run, you can do the project with only one P5 processor where you may have multiple original homeworks processors. If you need further assistance, private message me and I will see what i can do.

If you call Lutron at 800-523-9466, they can point you to a Lutron installer who can help. You can upgrade the processors if you like, and it generally takes fewer processors. You may have to run wire to wherever your new converged processor locations are, but fortunately, many of the homes have one or two large utility rooms where the panels are co-located.
