Could you use film frames from movies to compare HD/Bluray ?

I really would like to compare dvd/hd-dvd/ bluray to actual film stock.

I used to work at a movie theater and have lots of reels/trailers of films but I do not have a film or slide projector.

I was thinking of getting a slide projector and comparing to disc's but I do not know if this will work. Most of the films are scoped 2.35:1 so I guess I would need to attach a scope lens in front of slide projector but this seems like to much work, money, and light output/ color temp may be to far off to compare.

Is it possible to do this or could I digitize the film frame and compare that way more easily?

I think it would be nice to see what resolution is actually in the film itself to see how close HD discs come to film.

Has anybody tried this?

thanks,Nate

Film is over 2 times the resolution of Both Formats.

35mm film can have much higher than 1080p resolution but most prints in theaters often have less (not including focus/lense/setup issues ) this is benifit of digital media.

I am trying to find a way to compare both formats and show results of tests.

Only original negative. By the time it gets copied and played in a theater there is less resolution than 1080i.

That is what I was talking about. Not Post Production.

sigh

film isn't 8bit video though. There is more to a good image than resolution.
