On my 1024x768 computer screen AVS now scrolls left to right because of the wider ad banner at the top. Is that your intention? I find it a bit distracting.

Thanks for all your work on this great website.

IMHO, the Ad area at the top has become overwhelming and takes up too much space due to the addition of the new large Ad. Plus, the animated Ads (especially the new Oppo Ad) are distracting and annoying. Just my 2c. Can we pay a bit more AVS Club membership fees to get rid of them like we could for the Ads on the R.H. side?
P.S. Also annoying are the pop-ups in IE about needing to install Adobe Flash Player.

Hello...

Sorry to say that the site is made now for 1200 wide or larger. How much is cut off for you for we may be able to still make some changes to see.

So you know, we are planing a site design change with in the next few months with an updated look.

David, no offense, but it looks like the only reason the site is now made for 1200 wide or larger is to accomodate more Ads. Trim some Ads back to how it was earlier this week and problem solved.

Hi...

All we did was move the ads from the middle to the top. The size really did not increase for we removed a 250x60 ad. (We used to have a 468x80 and a 250x60 with a 15 pixels spacer side by side. (thus 733 pixels wide)

The result is that the we actually moved the site up on the screen more and not lowered it. If we move the ad back down, the site will drop down on the screen also. But the ad size is actually smaller in width.

Thus we actually have less ads on the site in total count.

Oh...

"P.S. Also annoying are the pop-ups in IE about needing to install Adobe Flash Player."

This is not something we control as it is your choice as to the browser and the install of what you choose to run. Flash is the way that ads are going on sites. It is not just AVS, not by along shot. Just install the flash player. :)

Homcommm...

I just moved the banner from inside the box to outside. This resulted in a reduction of width by just a little. Not sure if it was enough. Please let me know.

Thanks

Just install the flash player. :)I stand corrected. Maybe its the new type of large animated Ad you're now allowing at the top right of the screen that makes that area look bigger.

As for the Adobe Flash Viewer, I never needed it installed before to be on AVS but now I do, presumably because you're now allowing Ads that use this type of distracting animation. The only reason for needing Adobe Flash Viewer here is the Ads. Oh the stuff we need to install on our already bloated PCs just to accomodate Ads. Not your fault I know.

P.S. Any chance that you could offer a higher level of AVS Club membership that would eliminate the Ads at the top in addition to those at the side?

We have always allowed for Flash ads on the site. So not sure why you would need it now vs before. The Circuit City ad for example is flash, but then may then serve non-flash versions if it is seen you do not use flash. So that must be it.

Seeing we changed the ad size to 728x90, sponsors some of the sponsors sent flash versions. I do not recall having 468x60 flash ads before and you do not see the skyscrpaer ads which are mostly flash. This could be the reason.

On a side note...to the above change I just made, if your browser is now smaller, it will crop out the right side of the ads themselfs ads and not the forum content.

No big difference in the width, however, with the banner outside of the box it is more visually appealing.

I would prefer if you could to stay at 1024, but it is no big deal to me as it won't stop me from coming here. It should be noted through that I and the other who use a 1024 screen size won't see the visualapex, blue jeans cable, and AVS Radio ads unless we scroll to the right.

Maybe its time for me to get a bigger screen, this could be the perfect excuse. :D

Actually we may be making a change to the club where you will have the choice to see the side ads or not for some club people actually have asked to see the ads and the promotions. But we will not add a choice for the top ads to be removed.

As an after thought we should have never had done it for the side ads and that may soon change for new members who join the club after a certain date. The reason is that we need the ads to support a site of this size. Without the ads, the site could not run. (People do not usually care to pay to use such a site.)

Thanks

Just reduced the AVS Forum logo size and got a little more out of it. Still not enough.

Oh well. The only thing I could do is move the banner back down to the middle under the Alliance member buttons.

That would be great if you could, I never minded having to scroll down to get to the forum.

Again its no big deal to me, it just looks kinda odd with the ad cut off at the top of the screen.

Here is what it would look like...

Not as clean looking but we are going to be remaking the site look within a few months.

I agree that doesn't look as clean.

Any chance the AVS logo could be made less wide so as to accommodate the ad at the top?

When you do the re-design what screen resolution will you be designing for?

The logo is smaller than the boxes below it at this time. (The Samsung ads it not their currently for they are changing ad servers) Thus it would not make a difference.

At this time I am not sure as the the size. But looking I just looked at the logs, 26% of the people have a screen rez of 1024 x 768. So it is a considerable number and thus we would look to use that as the smallest size.

Ok, thanks for all your help. I look forward to the new design.

I'll go ahead and download the Adobe Flash Player and configure my pop-up blocker to block Adobe Flash as well as Macromedia Flash ads.

Ah, interesting, two different flash types. Interesting indeed.

Fwiw, the "offending" Ads that cause the prompt to install the Adobe Flash Player ActiveX control are Parts Express and Carada. The others, including Circuit City, do not cause this. I've reconfigured my Ad-Blocker accordingly.
