I couldn't find direct answers following other threads, so I'm posting all my question s in one thread:

I have about $250 for a DVD-player that will be used with a projector (To be determined, but ~$1500).

I'm thinking I'll stick with the following min requirements for a DVD player to match my price range: 720P/1080i thru HDMI and DVD-A/SACD thru analog. Use will be 50/50 for ht/music.

Players I am considering (three way shootout):

Oppo 981
Denon 2910 (used)
Denon 1930

Thoughts/questions:
How does the video compare? Is the 981 really that much better than the 2910 (per secrets benchmarks)? Anyone with first hand experience?

How does the analog audio out (DVDA/SACD) of the 2910 and 1930 compare with the 981?

I'd be open to other suggestions as well (new or used) in the $250 price range. But am most interested in hte Denon and Oppo.

I'm still searching thru the large 2910/1930/981 threads so my apologies if any answers you have are repeated elsewhere.

The reason I returned my 1930 and got an Oppo 981 was that the 1930 refused to read over 75% of the DVD+R and DVD+R DL discs that I had. That is a deal breaker for me since I almost always watch home-burnt discs.

I have the 1930 for dvd's only and have not had any problems with it -I also don't have any burned discs.I got the Denon because it is black(all of my gear is black on a wall mount) and the 981 was not available at the time I ordered the Denon.

That would be a deal breaker for me as well as we record some of our TIVO shows for the kids and have some home movies on DVD+R. I read a little more about the 1930 having trouble. Wonder if it's the firm ware that needs to be updated, or if it's something inherent in the design with these models. So far it doesn't seem to me that the newer model x930ci Denons are a substantial improvement over the last models.
