I am just scanning the latest threads now, after a month of abscence from this forum, so I apologize if this has been answered all ready..

But when will we begin to see 4X or more Blue-Ray writers selling for $499 or under? I'd prefer to get a combo drive.....but I already have the XBox HD DVD player. Now I need a Blue-Ray one..

But I just know that if I buy the current $599 2x writers, an announcement will be made later :).

I think it makes sense for them to arrive late summer or fall. Let's be realistic, it's been only a few months since most of the players (except Samsung) came out. They want to give some shelf space to these 1st gen systems, and I think they'll wait as long as they can for the 2nd gen machines to see how low they can price them at.

Amen!! combo player, sub $500, I am in! Combo player at below US$500? You might wait at least 18 months, that is if the war lasts that long.
