View Full Version : I Bought "Wickerman" HD DVD COMBO: $19.99!
LAGOSIAN 02-01-07, 04:44 PM Hey guys, I just bought "Wickerman" HD DVD COMBO movie at Best Buy for only $19.99! :)
Of course I printed this Target's online sale page: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=8-16/qid=1170363349/ref=sr_8_16/601-1764473-9365712?ie=UTF8&asin=B000MEYFYQ
and they were obligated to price match it. I also used the printout to buy "Poseidon" and "Lucky# slevin" for $19.99 each as well.
I really feel sorry for you. Absolutely horrid movie.
Good deal on lucky#slevin though.
Wickerman, man you got ripped of. They should have paid you 50 bucks to take it.
LiftedTacoma 02-01-07, 04:48 PM nice, I'll have to check out what else they have since my citi card gives me 6 points for every dollar i spend at target.com
mconstant 02-01-07, 04:50 PM I never watched the new one but I liked the older one. It started out pretty weird but got better towards the end.
LAGOSIAN 02-01-07, 04:55 PM I really feel sorry for you. Absolutely horrid movie.
Good deal on lucky#slevin though.
I didn't open it yet. What is so bad about it?
Let me know when the original is on HD DVD.
J

13% positive with 9% being from The Cream of The Crop critics..... oof
I believe it was the worst reviewed major release of 2006
;)
Gary Murrell 02-01-07, 05:06 PM putrid trash and I have never seen it, there is a 90 second download online that sums the movie up showing the stupid elements and ending :( I never had any intention of watching so that was great :)
WTF was going on with this stupid remake I will never know, the original is a masterpiece, this is just a disgrace and a insult
-Gary
laserguns 02-01-07, 05:17 PM Tell us how you really feel.
lol i agree
TrevorS 02-01-07, 05:38 PM Tell us how you really feel.
lol i agree
They probably figured that with Nicolas Cage onboard, it HAD to be successful :). (Not to mention all those fans of the original queueing up to see it :).)
jayrader 02-01-07, 05:41 PM Not The Bees!!!!
hobbs47 02-01-07, 05:53 PM Rented from netflix,only skimmed through after reading poor reviews.Yes,horrid movie,dopey ending,bear suits,women punching :D .PQ was great though.
BlackRiderX 02-01-07, 06:46 PM Ok, I have to ask this because I'm really confused at this point. My local Circuit City has this disc for $29.99 and it is not a combo. Some online stores show it as a dvd combo disc, while others do not.
So whats the deal?
Here is the version I saw in Circuit City. (http://dvd.themanroom.com/dvd-cover.php?did=3574)
HomerJay 02-01-07, 07:12 PM It is not a combo. It was originally listed as "Rated and Unrated" on Amazon.com; the assumption being it might be like Miami Vice. If I'm not mistaken, it only has the unrated version of the film.
Dave Mack 02-01-07, 07:15 PM weird...
the list price, $28.99 is certalinly not the normal combo list...
dvdempire has it for sale. NOT a combo...
Also this is a warner title. I thought they didn't DO combos!
http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_item.asp?userid=99365300549578&item_id=1283015&searchID=
Lagosian, you should check your box. If it indeed is a combo, you might have a very rare disc there!
Also this is a warner title. I thought they didn't DO combos!
They have, and are continuing to produce combos. "The Departed" and "Happy Feet" being two of the latest examples.
bases1616 02-01-07, 07:42 PM Lagosian,
I just watched the movie on HD-DVD yesterday and it is a really whack movie. If you have not opened it yet return it immediately. The Dolby True HD track definitely does not do it justice. Also, Netflix is great for these kinds of things. Look out for "The Departed" coming out on Feb. 13 it was my movie of the year last year and it will be in Dolby True HD.
BlackRiderX 02-01-07, 07:43 PM Yea, WB has done many combos. Like I said, some websites show the cover art that states it is in fact a combo disc, other sites show it as not a combo.
So far the only copies I have actually seen in person are not combos.
Dave Mack 02-01-07, 07:43 PM gotcha.
So The Wickerman is the first released though?
LAGOSIAN 02-01-07, 07:43 PM Very strange indeed! I already returned it. But this is what the one that I bought looks like: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000MEYFYQ.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS260_V46847075_.jpg
Dave Mack 02-01-07, 07:47 PM very strange. There are 2 versions floating out there then.
This is the one most others seem to have seen and/or purchased.

HomerJay 02-01-07, 07:51 PM gotcha.
So The Wickerman is the first released though? The first combo from Warner? No. I think the first combo from Warner was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang...or was it Firewall? Universal started releasing combos after Warner.
CPR Jose Ortiz 02-01-07, 07:52 PM I rather you crap on my hand than watch The Wicker Man 2006.
Dave Mack 02-01-07, 07:52 PM ah, thanks Homer
anyways, 3 others on another site who actually bought (GASP!) and kept this film state that it is indeed, not a combo. So either this thread title is inaccurate or Lagosian had a REALLY rare disc and should have kept it!
:)
BigJeff 02-01-07, 07:58 PM Highdefdigest claims to have gotten the combo version http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/wickerman2006.html . This is very odd indeed.
Dave Mack 02-01-07, 07:59 PM too bad the OP didn't take a picture of the disc cover before he returned it...
:)
Interesting, in the Highdefdigest specs: no combo is mentioned though...
Technical Specs
* HD DVD
* HD-30 Dual-Layer Disc
Video Resolution/Codec
* 1080p/VC-1
Aspect Ratio(s)
* 2.40:1
VERY weird
Eric D. 02-01-07, 08:08 PM The ones I've seen in stores are not combos.
The original is a CLASSIC...
Dave Mack 02-01-07, 08:16 PM that is true.
:)
TrevorS 02-01-07, 08:32 PM Very strange indeed! I already returned it.
If you are interested in seeing "The Wicker Man", make a point of picking up the SD and be prepared for a very strange ride. It's a pretty unusual film that starts out really laid back and VERY gradually builds -- pretty scary really because it seems like it could be real. I would guess that many wouldn't care for it, but it really is an amazing film -- extremely provocative for the time. (Far better than practically everything that comes out these days.)
EDIT -- I'm referring to the ORIGINAL film here -- not the remake!
PS. I recommend watching the unabridged version!
Dave Mack 02-01-07, 09:29 PM the original, yes..?
pmbracke 02-01-07, 09:39 PM Hey guys --
Peter from HD Digest here. That editor's note in our review was wrong... I can confirm it is definitely not a combo. Warner's original specs did indicate it would be, though. But if there is two versions floating around out there, we only got the non-combo.
Wouldn't be the first time Warner has mislabeled packaging, though -- it happened before early on with soundtracks on a couple of titles being mismarked. I think it was 'Lethal Weapon'...

I agree, make sure you watch the original version FIRST as the remake will spoil the ending to the classic version IMO.
TrevorS 02-01-07, 10:39 PM the original, yes..?
Oh, yes -- definitely! Sorry, I should have been specific about the version. I'll edit my post accordingly :).
Gary Murrell 02-01-07, 11:53 PM I just realized that I used profanity in my first post, I got carried away about this turd of a movie using the phrase "bull-S^*&" :D
I didn't even realize I did it, sorry about that, thanks doc for editing ;)
-Gary
Dave Mack 02-02-07, 12:07 AM ah, so no combo for $19.99
thread title should be edited...
I didn't even know Target was even selling either HD format yet. I did a search on their site and can't find a mention of HD-DVD or Blu-ray besides the 360 and PS3.
I really feel sorry for you. Absolutely horrid movie.
In YOUR opinion of course.
I liked the movie. Too many people try to compare it to the original. Just watch the movie for what it is. It's entertaining.
Frank Stein 02-02-07, 12:05 PM Hey guys, I just bought "Wickerman" HD DVD COMBO movie at Best Buy for only $19.99! :)
The reviews are just awful. I wouldn't spend 5 cents on a movie so universally panned?
Fettastic 02-02-07, 02:14 PM It's not the greatest movie, but I honestly don't understand the seething hatred of it. It was a hell of a lot better than the original!
And the unrated version now ends precisely like the original.

I think it's one of those movies people just want to hop on the bandwagon and hate. It's not a bad movie at all.
Fettastic 02-02-07, 02:17 PM putrid trash and I have never seen it
-Gary
Sounds about par for the course.
I didnt even know they had made a remake of this classic film. So I got excited when I saw the title of this thread (what a letdown :( )
Fettastic 02-02-07, 02:26 PM Aside from the bear suit, admittedly ridiculous, can some of you tell me why you loath it so much? As far as punching the women, they were psychotic murderers. If it were me, I'd beat the living crap out of them, and I've never harmed a woman in my life.
Fettastic 02-02-07, 02:31 PM And let's not forget the same people decrying the violence against females in this film (which is just silly) were probably the first in line to see Monica Belucci viciously and extensively raped in Irreversable.
Fettastic 02-02-07, 02:44 PM Acting: Good
Production design: Good
Cinematography: good
Costumes: Good
Makeup/effects: Good
Directing: Good
Score/Sound Design: Good
Story: Interesting
How do you get "Worst piece of crap ever created" from that?
How do you get "Worst piece of crap ever created" from that?
By not seeing it, of course. :)

Gary never mixes words - does he?
Fettastic 02-02-07, 03:38 PM Gary never mixes words - does he?
Especially about things he admits to knowing nothing about. ;)
En Sabur Nur 02-02-07, 07:59 PM I hope the original comes to HD-DVD. I really enjoyed it. If not, I'll have to buy the dvd. I wouldn't call it a horror film, but what happened at the end sure was. The version I watched was a new version that was released prior to the remake. It had some nice extras.
just bought it used for 8 bucks, so at best i'll return it and tell them the disc was bad.
ROB98374 08-26-08, 09:08 PM Wow! This is an OLD thread.
I don't have the movie, and never saw the original.
