View Full Version : my display is out of focus, did I do it?
tundrSQ 02-01-07, 06:47 PM I accidently hit the "factory reset" button in the SM of my Samsung HL-S5687w, and it seems to have affected the focus more than anything else. Can this be calibrated onsite to be back in max focus or do I need to make this a service call with samsung? I am setting up a calibration with Elliab for the end of Feb, but i am wondering if I need to get samsung out here ahead of that? I have not asked him yet, as i am waiting for a return email on the calibration time frame.
David Abrams 02-01-07, 09:57 PM Greetings,
No, the factory reset function will not affect the actual focus of the display; however, it may affect the apparent focus. More specifically, it could have reset, or made changes, to picture parameters that are causing the image to appear out of focus. Both Eliab and I perform mechnical focus when necessary, and always go through the various system parameters to ensure that you are achieving an accurate and focused image.
Good Pictures! :)

WOW...just got an email from Eliab about this too....he basically said in the words of Marsellus Wallace : You ain't got no problem, Jules. I'm on the.........
I can't wait. :D
Hi
I did this too. Easy to do, wasn't it? I'm not sure if my picture is different, but I'm a little paranoid about it. Is this just the procedure of eliminating the sawteeth from the actuator gain patterns? I'm also going to have a go with ColorHCFR and an eyeone display tonight. But could someone share what settings might need to be different from factory stock? I'd be willing to pay a consulting fee if necessary, but am not looking for a full ISF cal right now.

Yup I had it highlighted since is was at the top of the list and rolled my thumb over the right arrow button while turning to answer my daughters question. I am going to contact Samsung about this...at the minimum you should need to click "into" a reset window and then be prompted to continue. I think there needs to be a code or something to enter in order to reset it. I was on the fence regarding a pro calibration because I could not live with the skin tones this TV has no matter what I did with it...but hitting the reset button pushed me over the edge. Bittersweet huh?
RacerX10 02-09-07, 07:14 PM I'm on my second HL-S5687 (first one developed a digital noise problem)
The first one had a fantastic picture till that problem appeared
This replacement unit is out of focus.
Getting a professional calibrator here probably isn't an option
Can I get in and adjust that single parameter somewhere ?
I worked TV repair for 8 years so I'm not a complete newb.
Thanks,
DLD
RacerX10 02-12-07, 12:39 PM just as an update, i went it and adjust the focus ring. 10 minute job and the problem is fixed.
very easy !
