im planning on getting a few lights and things (window shutters) automated in my house, but i was wondering if anyone knew of such a place down here in Australia where i might find such things?? and where i can go and have a look and a play wit these sorts of toys?

You should ask over on the CQC forum - there's quite a few folks from Australia and NZ on there. They primarily use CBus, but I know some folks have some other stuff too.
