Let's say I rent Superman Returns on HD DVD, and oops, I lose it. What kind of charges do BB or Netflix impose on you? Market value? Less? More?

View Full Version : How much are the charges for lost rentals? georgeorwell 02-02-07, 12:31 PM Let's say I rent Superman Returns on HD DVD, and oops, I lose it. IeraseU 02-02-07, 12:36 PM If *you* lose it?...I once was accused of losing "Phantom of the Opera", and they charged $21 to my CC (although it eventually turned up). If you say it is lost in the mail, I don't think they charge you anything (covered by insurance)....but place you on a *list*. I think from this point on, if you lose another movie, then you will be charged for it rather then be given the benefit of the doubt. Apophis906 02-02-07, 12:38 PM I dont know. I have had a few that get lost in the mail over the years and they just go on about it. This is what netflix has to say about paying for lost disc. We are aware that a disc may occasionally be lost during the shipping process through no fault of the customer. Therefore, it is our policy to replace lost movies at no charge. If an excessive amount of lost DVD reports are filed on an account, we will place the account under review and notify the customer via email. This is what blockbuster has to say about it. We understand that DVDs sometimes get lost during the shipping process, and so we will replace the occasional lost disc at no charge. Of course they are both talking about lost in shipping, and not lost at your house or something. They do put you on a watch, but its not by how many are lost really. Well in saying that the longer you are with them the more potential to loose disc. I had two disc within a month get lost in the mail and they never had a problem with it. Now if you start loosing one every week, then I think they would just cancel your account. georgeorwell 02-02-07, 01:16 PM I noticed on Netflix, you can actually choose, "I lost it, charge me for it". I would hate to click it and have them tell me, "We have charged your credit card $40 for the lost rental, have a nice day." For that price, it would be worth buying it to return. However, if it was "We have charged your credit card $12.99"....well, hmmmmmmmm rboster 02-02-07, 01:20 PM I out right lost a BB mail in movie. I waited until I found a used copy, bought it and stuck it in the envelope. I would suggest the same for you with the HD title. I highly doubt they will charge something like $12.99 or even $19.99....so it would be cheaper to find a used copy and take care of it that way. Here's a used copy from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Superman-Returns-Combo-DVD-Standard/dp/B000JVT092/sr=1-14/qid=1170440570/ref=sr_1_14/104-7512528-6506325?ie=UTF8&s=dvd Or sign up for google checkout and use the $10 coupon....try ebay too WirelessGuru 02-02-07, 01:24 PM If *you* lose it?...I once was accused of losing "Phantom of the Opera", and they charged $21 to my CC (although it eventually turned up). At what point do they charge you? Since they have a "no late fee" policy, I have had The Breakfast Club for over a month. Will they assume I lost it at some point and charge me? georgeorwell 02-02-07, 01:27 PM At what point do they charge you? Since they have a "no late fee" policy, I have had The Breakfast Club for over a month. Will they assume I lost it at some point and charge me? Online or in-store? If in-store, they have probably already charged you. If online, never, it is just taking a spot in your queue. CHG 02-02-07, 02:04 PM I have had the occasional disc go missing from both Netflix and BB. As per their agreement, I have never been charged for a disc. Will they assume I lost it at some point and charge me? This was for Blockbuster Total Access (local rental coupon). The charged me about 10days after it was supposedly lost. atagert 02-02-07, 03:23 PM Online or in-store? If in-store, they have probably already charged you. So what you are actually asking everyone here is "Should i steal it or not !?" rboster 02-02-07, 04:23 PM So what you are actually asking everyone here is "Should i steal it or not !?" WOW, i didn't catch the wording in the OP's original post. You maybe correct it does seem a little odd to phrase it that way. What say OP? If so, that would pretty crappy thing to do. I know on certain collectable titles (though not the case here), ppl have done it. OOP title worthbig money on ebay vs the costs of not returning it to BB. georgeorwell 02-03-07, 11:44 PM So what you are actually asking everyone here is "Should i steal it or not !?" No, that's not what I'm asking. Can you read, if so, read all of the posts. The question was asked because if I lose one, do they charge so much that it's worth buying and replacing. |
